Position Details :

Position Emphasis : The position supports the NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members on promoting public education by developing and / or identifying programs, advocacy, and member engagement strategies, and materials to advance the elimination of race, ethnic, sexual orientation, or social class biases within public schools.

Position Summary : This position will travel to, present, and coordinate special presentations, workshops, education / training programs, and events related to your area of expertise.

Lead and / or conduct research to support decision-making on NEA strategy and programs with an emphasis on content development.

Analyze emerging research and national trends regarding your area(s) of expertise. Keep abreast of educational research, leadership development theory and practice, and technological advances.

Pursue, analyze, interpret, and synthesize complex documents, research studies, and other scholarly materials. Serve as subject matter expert and information resource for national leaders and staff and state and local affiliates.

Provide strategic guidance to governance and affiliates on areas of expertise. Provide training, consultation, advice, professional expertise, or general information.

Forge productive working relationships with representatives of other organizations, including but not limited to education-related organizations.

Initiate partnerships, collaborations, and programs integrating subject area issues and NEA strategic priorities. Work with NEA partners from many constituencies to realize common leadership development goals and enhance the NEA agenda.

Garner supports and ensures collaboration by influencing / persuading individuals and organization processes of external organizations.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the following is provided : The position involves the use of effective oral and written communication and presentation skills, interpersonal skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, creative / innovative thinking skills, personal computer or computer keyboard skills, and the ability to travel by various conveyances, e.g., air and automobile.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT : A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Organization Development, Organizational Leadership, Education, Adult Education, a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are required.

Five years experience in leadership development, organizational development, and program development, as well as designing / leading national and state programs and projects related to the job's focus.

Recognized standing in the field of expertise. Extensive experience in developing partnerships and collaborating.

Experienced public speaker (including presentations at meetings, facilitation, etc.) and meeting design (including program design and logistics).

Specialized courses (or comparable experience) in leadership development, adult learning theory and training, learning management systems, and course development may be required based on the specific focus of an individual position included under this job description.

REQUIREMENTS : The candidate must be able to work extended hours on evenings and weekends. At the time of the interview, samples of work products (e.

g., writing, presentation handouts, training materials, etc.) will be required. Frequent travel is also required.

SELECTION CRITERIA : TIER 1 (Essential) : Demonstrated skill and experience analyzing policy, emerging research, and national trends regarding area(s) of expertise.

Skills in leadership development and strategy development in support of a systemic approach to leadership development. Demonstrated skill and experience in writing, analyzing, and interpreting various issues about leadership development.

Demonstrated effective written and oral communication for diverse and activist audiences. Proven skills in creating and conducting presentations and providing expert advice and strategies for leadership development issues.

Effective consultation, facilitation, and advocacy skills. Demonstrated ability to evaluate, lead, plan, organize, and coordinate team efforts.

Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively on cross-functional and diverse teams (internal and external).

Demonstrated ability to present and coordinate special presentations, workshops, education / training programs, and events related to expertise.

Successful references. TIER 2 (Significant) : Ability to establish relationships and act as a liaison to the Board of Directors and Governance Committees.

Proven flexibility and effectiveness in handling multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities / conditions.

TIER 3 (Desirable) : Ability to develop and maintain data gathering and leadership development programs. Knowledge of the mission and programs of the National Education Association.

Develop, monitor, and administer contracts with consultants, vendors, or others providing relevant services to the NEA. Perform other duties as assigned.
