What We're Looking For
The Strategic Sourcing Manager is a critical role responsible for the comprehensive management of university procurement processes related to various product and service categories.
This position drives the achievement of operational and financial efficiencies through effective sourcing strategies and procurement practices.
The manager will act as a principal liaison among departments, ensuring optimal performance in contract negotiations, supplier management, and compliance with procurement policies.
A Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field, five years of relevant experience, and an active Christian faith are required.
A Master's degree such as an MBA, and 7 years of experience are preferred.
Required Qualifications :
- At least 5-7 years of procurement or strategic sourcing experience, with a minimum of 3-5 years in negotiation and managing complex procurement projects.
- Proven expertise in writing and reviewing complex contracts and handling high-value procurement activities.
- Demonstrable ability to operate in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders, showing strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in procurement software systems, with a preference for experience in Jaggaer / Oracle.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions, with a preference for experience in data visualization tools such as Power BI
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience in higher education procurement or a similarly complex organizational setting.
- Familiarity with federal regulations like Uniform Guidance and state procurement statutes.
- Professional certifications relevant to supply chain management.
Additional experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.
What You Will Do
- Develop and implement category-specific sourcing strategies aligned with university goals, ensuring integration of cost-effective and innovative procurement solutions.
- Lead and manage sourcing activities, including request for information (RFI) and request for proposal (RFP) processes, supplier negotiations, and contract execution.
- Engage actively with university departments and stakeholders to define procurement needs, ensuring alignment with the university's strategic objectives and operational requirements.
- Maintain strong market intelligence, assessing trends and dynamics to optimize sourcing and procurement activities.
- Manage supplier relationships, including conducting business reviews to ensure compliance with contract terms and performance standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the procurement team, mentoring staff and leading initiatives to enhance processes and systems.
- Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and university regulations and policies in procurement activities.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure that sourcing strategies are effectively adopted and supported throughout the organization.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission.
