About The Position
Job Title : Surgical TechnologistJob Specialty : Scrub TechnologistJob Duration : 13 weeksShift : VariableGuaranteed Hours : Not specifiedExperience : Minimum of 3 years required;
2 years of ophthalmic surgery experience preferredLicense : Registration as required by local regulationsCertifications : Current CPR certificationMust-Have : Completion of accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent clinical surgery training and experienceJob Description : - Prepare and maintain medical equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical procedures.
Assist with surgical patient care under the direction of an RN or physician.- Verify supplies, equipment, and instruments are available prior to surgery;
accurately pull case materials and complete checklists.- Participate in the timeout process prior to every surgical case.
- Perform room turnovers including case breakdown, cleaning, and setup.- Follow principles of sterility, aseptic technique, infection control, and universal precautions guidelines.
- Anticipate the needs of the patient and surgeon; prioritize activities and demonstrate critical thinking.- Prepare medications for procedures under supervision;
understand routine drugs, dosages, and administration routes.- Maintain a sterile field and utilize sterile techniques.- Inspect equipment and instruments for defects and remove defective items from service.
Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization methods and reprocess surgical instruments accordingly.- Communicate and ensure preference cards are accurate and updated;
collaborate with the OR team.- Act professionally and respectfully to all team members.- Apply principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement.
Protect confidentiality in all aspects of patient care, personnel, and strategic issues.- Maintain positive working relationships and follow hospital conduct guidelines.
Physical Requirements : - Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty pounds.- Engage in activities involving stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, reaching, and grasping.
- Visual acuity necessary to perform detailed tasks and operate machinery.Working Conditions / Environmental Exposures : - Exposure to environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, sharps, blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and medical waste.
- Use of protective clothing and equipment may be necessary.
