OVERVIEW
The Clinical Educator II (CE) performseducational activities that validate, develop, maintain and enhanceskills and competencies relative to patient care.
The CE isresponsible for developing and implementing AHS Onboarding andOrientation Program, Annual Education Program, Continuing Education(CE) Courses, staff competency validation, and any ongoingeducational in-services .
The CE is also a resource for developingorientation and annual staff education for all levels of nursingpersonnel and non-nursing personnel and providing input into thedevelopment / revision of evidence-based policies and procedures.
TheCE must work effectively as a team member and must use goodinterpersonal skills in all contact with patients, staff andphysicians.
The CE works collaboratively with organizationalleaders across departments in assessing, planning and implementingneeds assessment, educational program, and staff competencyvalidation for all levels of nursing personnel and non-nursingpersonnel as indicated for professional development and regulatorycompliance.
DUTIES & ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS

Accurately maintains education files, including orientationprogram, annual skills competencies, LMS records and any othercompetencies.
Pulls requested employee education files as neededfor managers and / or any regulatory agencies.
Assists AHS leadership team during regulatory hospital surveys withmultiple requests by the surveyors. Collaborates with AHSleadership team to develop a corrective action plan for anyregulatory surveys.
Collaborates with AHS leadership team toevaluate and complete the Periodic Performance Review (PPR) asrequired by the Joint Commission.
Assists inorganizing and presenting to the staff educational in-services onan ongoing basis on new equipment, new organizational initiatives,policies, procedures, regulatory updates and requirements and anyother educational needs as requested by management and / or staff.
Collaborates with the Director of Clinical Education in developingeducational programs based on quality process improvement needs.
Develops monthly and annual educationcalendar based on identified educational needs. Acts as a resourceperson to AHS staff for any equipment, policy or procedure relatedissues.
Provides hands-on training / assistance to staff and / orcoordinates vendor in-services as needed to promote better learning / understanding.
Maintains and / or updates Education Intranet pageto notify staff about any educational opportunities in the Bayarea.
- Collects and assesses data andinformation related to education needs and other pertinentsituations, including identification of trends, issues andsupporting data to determine a comprehensive education program forassigned units / clinics including classroom, clinical experiencesand learning technologies.
- Developscompetency-based hospital orientation program for all AHS staff andassists in organizing the department of hire orientation.
Assessesand revises competencies as needed to meet regulatory obligations.When necessary, collaborates with AHS Human Resources Departmentand departmental managers in coordinating AHS new hire onboarding,orientation, execution of organizational initiatives, andeducational programs.
- Develops curriculathat is reflective of evidence-based practice and uses theappropriate methods of teaching to accommodate learning styles anddifferent learning environments.
- Evaluatesoutcomes of the educational programs and utilizes findings forcontinued improvement; incorporates objective assessment ofclassroom and clinical performance into evidence-based evaluationframework;
applies measurement instruments and statisticalanalysis, seeking consultation when needed.
- Fosters achievement of goals and objectives.
- Identifies factors that affect staff's ability to fulfill their jobresponsibilities, collaborates with management to effectappropriate change in systems and sustainable desired outcomes.
- Integrates relevant research outcomes intonursing professional development practice through effectivelearning activities and process improvement.
- Organizes annual competency for all nursing Assesses and revisescompetencies as needed to meet regulatory obligations. Developsannual educational review courses with post-tests or othervalidation methods for all staff utilizing Elsevier LearningManagement System (LMS) E-Learning system.
Acts as the AHS LMSAdministrator to develop and assign new courses to staff and keeptrack of staff's LMS completion status.
Updates the staff and themanagers on the completion status on a regular basis.
Participates in AHS committees and develops educationalplan as needed for any issues that require further staff education.
Assists nursing leadership with reviewing and revising AHS Policiesand Procedure prior to final approval by Clinical Practice Council(CPC).
- Participates in continuing educationprovider unit as a Nurse Planner; utilizes Board of RegisteredNursing (BRN), The Joint Commission and CMS (Centers for Medicareand Medicaid Services) criteria to assess needs, plan, implementand evaluate continuing nursing education activities.
- Participates in quality performance improvementactivities.
- Participates in strategicplanning, ad hoc projects and educational activities as assignedfor the department.
- Performs other duties asassigned.
- Plans, develops, and evaluates theNursing preceptor program to enhance the orientation process andthe retention of staff;
serves as a role model through educationalprograms and ongoing coaching and mentoring.
- Plans educational programming for new or changing programs of care;assists in development of evidenced-based clinical policies andprocedures as requested.
- Serves as a liaisonwith colleges / universities for student integration and practicumwithin the clinical setting as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likelyprovide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well aspossession of any required licenses or certifications isqualifying.
RequiredEducation : Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing;Bachelors of Science in Nursing .(BSN), Master's Degree in Nursing,Business, Public Health, Public Policy, and / or Education.
Forcurrent AHS employees, Master's required within 2 years of assumingthe position.
PreferredEducation : Master's Degree in Nursing, Business, PublicHealth, Public Policy, and / or Education. Completion of graduatedegree within 5 years of hire is highly desirable.
Required Experience : Three(3) years of relevant nursing experience in an acute care settingfor external hires and one (1) year of experience with orientationand education of nursing staff in clinical setting;
experience ineducation program design and evaluation using adult learningprinciples.
RequiredLicenses / Certifications : Valid license to practice as aRegistered Nurse in the State of California; & Basic LifeSupport (BLS) Certification issued by the American HeartAssociation.
