Thornton Tomasetti, Inc., seeks Senior Engineers - Structure in New York, NY and other US locations as needed.
Prepare analysis and designs for structural elements and systems.
Coordinate all activities with project manager and other design engineers.
Communicate and coordinate with clients and consultants (e.g., architects and civil / mechanical / electrical / plumbing engineers) to ensure clear understanding of project goals and expectations.
Interact with clients and team members regarding project information.
Analyze building structures (e.g., load, wind, gravity, and geometry).
Interpret building codes.
Determine project, design, and construction specifications (e.g., beam size, column size, etc.).
Guide and assist other engineers regarding issues such as codes, design criteria, and software.
Coordinate and guide preparation of construction documents with BIM staff, clients, and internal quality staff.
Perform spot-check calculations and back-checks plan mark-ups and completed drafting.
Perform construction administration services on assigned projects.
Respond to RFIs from contractors and subcontractors.
Organize and maintain logs and files for structural submittal.
Attend construction meetings and visit jobsites at major stages and phases.
Prepare field reports for clients.
Perform full time site-observation for projects as assigned.
Perform other functions as needed.
Mentor other employees on various design techniques and on TT design standards, codes, and software applications.
Develop drawings and spreadsheets to create new standards.
Perform onsite damage or condition assessments, document conditions thoroughly and appropriately, perform analyses of the existing conditions and write technical reports outlining analysis methods, findings, and recommendations.
Mentor the onsite team as needed and younger engineers who are assisting with the investigation, and review work products for accuracy and thoroughness.
- Requires a Master's degree in Engineering, Architecture or a related field plus 2 years of related experience. Requires 2 years of experience in analyzing building structures using computer modeling methods and preparing structural calculations;
- 2 years of experience reviewing shop drawings and coordinating structural design for disciplines including mechanical, electrical engineering, and architecture;
and 2 years of experience visiting jobsites during construction and preparing revisions to structural design documents. Certifications required : Engineer-in-training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE).
Travel required up to 20% to visit job sites at major stages and phases.
Compensation
The rate for this position generally is $106,434 - $106,434 . This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law.
It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York.
Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law.
Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law.
A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
