Description
Essential Functions :
- Work closely with an interdisciplinary team of other dietitians, health coaches, providers, and physician.
- Assesses and systematically implements individualized appropriate nutrition education for patients / families. Conducts comprehensive patient / family teaching.
Provides educational resources for patient and family. Updates and develops new teaching materials as needed.
- Adjusts diet according to patient’s needs taking into consideration allergies, intolerances, lifestyle, psychosocial, and educational factors.
- Assesses and systematically implements individualized appropriate nutrition education for patients / families. Conducts comprehensive patient / family teaching.
Provides educational resources for patient and family. Updates and develops new teaching materials as needed.
- Evaluates clinical data as to normal vs. abnormal parameters.
- Completes documentation of Medical Nutrition Therapy.
- Conducts group nutrition classes. Instructs at a level the participants and family can understand. Updates classes, arranges for samples, and provides recipes.
- Documents medical nutrition therapy and nutritional care for clients to ensure their records are complete and information about the client is available.
- Assists patient in establishing and monitoring goals. Works collaboratively and communicates with staff to improve patient outcomes.
- Monitors and modifies client care plan to ensure appropriate client services are delivered.
- All other duties as assigned.
Additional Functions in Ambulatory / Outpatient Setting :
- Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to patients encompassing screening for nutrition risk and all steps of the nutrition care process as appropriate.
- Completes nutrition counseling and education with both inpatients and outpatients.
- Monitors patient / family response and progress.
- Evaluates if expected outcomes have been achieved; communicates patient progress to the patient, family, physician.
Additional Requirements
Required :
Education - Bachelors degree in Dietetics
Certification - Licensed Nutritionist / Dietitian (LN) - South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners; or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) - Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
Preferred :
Experience - 1+ years of Healthcare Experience
Education - Masters degree in Dietetics
Physical Requirements :
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
