Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY : \n\n

Performs electrocardiography procedures, exercise stress testing, nuclear stress testing, ambulatory monitoring, cardiac and vascular ultrasound / imaging and other specialties of ultrasound for diagnostic purposes at Bryan Medical Center.

9. Cross-trains into other areas of noninvasive technology such as electrocardiograms, signal-averaged electrocardiograms, flight physical electrocardiograms, exercise stress testing, nuclear stress testing and additional noninvasive technology as assigned; cross-trains into other ultrasound modalities.

\n\n

10. Informs supervisor (s) of any institution or equipment concerns.

\n\n

11. Communicates / interfaces with Medical Center personnel, medical staff, patients, families and outside agencies to ensure quality patient care.

\n\n

12. Maintains a safe working environment.

\n\n

13. Maintains confidentiality of hospital, patient and family information.

\n\n

14. Participates in quality initiatives and lab accreditations (with ICAEL / ICAVL) activities; participates in quality assurance data collection.

\n\n

15. Participates in training of echocardiography, vascular ultrasound interns, acting as assigned preceptor or providing general support of their education; completes required documentation as indicated.

\n\n

16. May deliver medications received on unit to the appropriate patient, RN, physician, medication drawer or medication storage place.

\n\n

17. Operates mobile ultrasound equipment in all areas of the hospital.

\n\n

18. Provides education to the patient and family by providing an explanation of the procedure.

\n\n

19. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

\n\n

20. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

\n\n

21. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

\n\n

1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patients growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.

\n\n

2. Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology with special emphasis on hemodynamics.

\n\n

3. Knowledge of cardiac dysrhythmias and life threatening rhythms.

\n\n

4. Knowledge of patient education as it relates to cardiovascular treatment, disease prevention and rehabilitation.

\n\n

5. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

\n\n

6. Skill in the performance and application of most non-invasive cardiology procedures and testing.

\n\n

7. Skill in operating personal computer, and general office equipment.

\n\n

8. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

\n\n

9. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

\n\n

10. Ability to carry out daily schedule through individual or cooperative effort.

\n\n

11. Ability to accurately perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of procedure scheduled.

\n\n

12. Ability to move and transport heavy ultrasound equipment.

\n\n

13. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

\n\n

14. Ability to practice proper body mechanics and utilize ergonomic methods / tools to ensure personal and customer / patient safety.

\n\n

15. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments including diverse patient populations.

\n\n

16. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patients and family in accordance with HIPAA regulations and hospital procedures.

\n\n

17. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

\n\n

\n\n

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

\n\n

Graduation from a diagnostic medical sonography program or equivalency required. Must obtain Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) within two (2) years of hire through the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or provide demonstrated progress toward achieving registry AND must obtain Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) within (1) year of hire through the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or provide demonstrated progress toward achieving registry.

\n\n

For staff with specialized pediatric training and a minimum of one (1) year experience in Pediatric Cardiac Sonography they would not be required to carry the additional Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) credential to qualify as a level 4 Technologist.

\n\n

\n\n

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS :

\n\n

Basic Life Support (CPR) with AED certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

\n\n

\n\n

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

\n\n

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

\n\n

(DOT) Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and / or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

\n\n

Possible exposure to body fluids and communicable disease; may be required to lift and transport patients.
