Construction Department

The Construction team is responsible for the management of delivering data centers from conception through commissioning, working with Sales, Operations, New Site Development, and Innovation and Engineering along the way.

Construction also works closely with partner contractors to come up with a vertically integrated design and manages these partners to deliver the projects on schedule and budget.

Many times, a role like this at other companies is purely oversight. One thing that distinguishes Vantage is that our technical staff is given the responsibility and authority to directly drive the process.

Position Overview

This role can be based in any of our US locations : Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Santa Clara, CA; or Ashburn, VA.

Vantage is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Risk Manager to oversee and manage the risks associated with our construction projects.

This role is critical in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks throughout the construction lifecycle, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.

The Construction Risk Manager will collaborate closely with project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to develop and implement risk management strategies that protect the company’s interests and support the successful delivery of construction projects.

Essential Job Functions

Risk Identification and Assessment :

Identify potential risks associated with construction projects, including financial, operational, safety, legal, and environmental risks.

Conduct risk assessments and develop risk profiles for each project, ensuring that all relevant risks are documented and understood by project teams.

Risk Mitigation and Management :

Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of identified risks on construction projects.

Monitor ongoing projects to ensure that risk management plans are being followed and adjust strategies as necessary to address emerging risks.

Contract and Insurance Management :

Review and assess construction contracts for risk-related clauses and conditions, providing recommendations to minimize exposure.

Ensure that appropriate insurance coverage is in place for all construction projects, coordinating with insurance providers as needed.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight :

Ensure that all construction projects comply with relevant safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.

Work with legal and compliance teams to manage any legal or regulatory risks associated with construction activities.

Collaboration and Communication :

Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that risk management practices are integrated into project planning and execution.

Communicate risk management plans and updates to senior management, project teams, and other relevant parties.

Incident Investigation and Reporting :

Lead investigations into any incidents or near-misses on construction sites, identifying root causes and developing action plans to prevent recurrence.

Prepare and present reports on risk management activities, including incident reports, risk assessments, and mitigation plans.

Continuous Improvement :

Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging trends in construction risk management.

Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the company’s risk management capabilities and ensure the ongoing success of construction projects.

Additional Duties :

Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

Education :

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field is required.

Professional certifications such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or similar are preferred.

Experience :

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in construction risk management, project management, or a related field.

Proven experience managing risks on large-scale construction projects, preferably within the data center or mission-critical environments.

Skills :

Strong understanding of risk management principles and practices in the construction industry.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Proficiency in risk management software and tools, as well as construction project management software.

Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Initiative-driven with a proactive approach to risk management.

Travel required is expected to be up to 5% but may increase over time as the business evolves.

Additional Details

Salary Range : $140,000-$160,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
