Summary

The Special Systems Technician provides general assistance to all departments / sections at the Midwestern University Campus.

This position will report to the Supervisor of Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Locksmith and key control duties including cutting, logging, and assigning keys
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs access control systems
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs fire alarm and life / safety systems
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs mass notification system
  • Special events and classroom setups such as setting up tables and chairs, and opening / closing movable walls
  • Provides general assistance to other areas of Campus Facilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and / or Experience

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least 2 years of locksmithing and / or experience in electrical / electronics experience, preferably related to the installation and repair of fire alarms and access control systems.

One-year certificate from college or technical school in a related field desired. An associate degree or equivalent from two-year college / technical school in a related field preferred.

Experience in any of the following is desired.

  • UTP / unshielded twisted pair cabling
  • 110 Terminations
  • Cable management
  • Rack installation.
  • Single / multimode fiber optic cable experience to include handling and terminations.
  • Bicxy certification
  • Access controls
  • Mass notification systems
  • Gate / door operators

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office, Word. Excel knowledge is desired.
