WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Research Scientist Senior will collaborate with Dr. Alex Greninger to conceive and develop projects and plans for clinical immune profiling of viral diseases, including developing and validating bespoke high-throughput binding serologies, functional serologies such as neutralization / pseudoneutralization assays, TCR / BCR sequencing, cellular immunity assays, cytokine assays, and Fc characterization assays, and subsequent performance of assays and / or direction of technical personnel.
Research / Project Management (80%)
Responsible for the technical and development of the research projects and experiments in Virology, to support research in optimizing of high-complexity immunological assays, and process improvement that will be used for the Virology Division.
This will include coordinating research efforts in laboratory automation of serological and cellular immunity assays across the division.
- Lead automation efforts in the Virology research laboratories involving liquid handlers.
- Develop process improvements in workflow of high complexity immunology tests.
- Develop and implement clinical research validation to be used for virologic test services based on binding and functional serologies and cellular immunity assays.
- Facilitate and lead the research process of streamlining and harmonization of wet bench aspects of immunology workflows across Virology Division laboratories.
- Plans, develops, and coordinates research and development of technical workflows and facilities of Virology Division laboratories.
- Oversee the creation of technical development documentation (validation document, procedures) for new and updated Virology Division tests from research to specification required by regulatory agencies, including CAP, CLIA, FDA, Study Sponsors, and PIs.
- Negotiate with vendors for reagents and instrumentation needed for expanded immunology services across the Virology Division laboratories.
- Review current Virology Division technical development plans and assist in planning for annual division research and development technical goals and objectives.
- Interact with laboratory clients (physician and other medical providers) related to aspects of technical development.
- Assist in test interpretation and test reporting from research validated tests.
- Review high-complexity quality control data for Virology Division laboratories.
- Participate, as needed, in teaching of undergraduates, graduate students, residents, and fellows.
- Participate in research and scholarship related to the Virology Division leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
Directly supervise the employees assigned to work in the Greninger Laboratory, including hiring, training, daily oversight, mentoring, scheduling and prioritization of tasks evaluation of performance, development and implementation of performance improvement plans and corrective action, and management of leave requests.
Education Requirement :
PhD in Immunology, Virology, Biology, Microbiology or closely related field AND six (6) years in collaborative project design within clinical immunology and / or viral biology OR equivalent combination of education / experience.
- Expertise in primer / probe design for PCR
- Genomic assay design and different genomic library preparation and analysis techniques
- Experience in evaluation of viral sequence diversity
- Evidence of strong writing skills and ability to bring projects to completion
