Responsibilities
The individual will work with and provide technical contributions to project teams that conduct research in support of residential / commercial buildings technologies with an emphasis on HVAC equipment and building efficiency.
The primary client is the U.S. Department of Energy offices, and secondary clients include other agencies, state government, utilities, regional energy efficiency organizations, and private organizations.
This position offers the opportunity for a broad range of involvement in activities including researching and developing efficiency and electricity infrastructure related experiments and technologies.
The positions also identifies and helps develop new and improved tools, technologies, and resources for addressing energy efficiency and electricity infrastructure needs;
and designing workshops, case studies, programs training that support the application and use of energy efficiency technologies and best practices.
In this role, the key responsibilities of the successful candidate are the following :
Individual will have the growing ability to apply advanced energy principles, theories and concepts in the fields of efficiency, electricity infrastructure technology and policy, building science, including building energy use, management, and analysis.
Individual should be able to demonstrate training and experience in building science with application to residential and / or commercial buildings.
- Grow into serving as a subject matter expert for the environmental chambers and associated systems, responsible for test system setup and modification in accordance with project standards, overall design modifications, system diagnostics, system operation / oversight, system performance testing and evaluation, acceptance testing, condition assessment surveys, work and maintenance planning outage planning, and other facility operation management.
- Capability to review, estimate, and procure project costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, operation, and other related life cycle costs.
Inspects or directs the inspection of construction and project progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Works with other service departments to coordinate work.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
- BS / BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-
- MS / MA -OR-
Preferred Qualifications :
- Masters degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and at least 3 years’ experience; or equivalent education / experience related to : energy efficiency, building energy efficiency and related codes and standards;
- building science; building instrumentation and field studies; appliance codes and standards, financial and energy efficiency data gathering, analysis, and presentation;
utilities planning / oversight, and extensive knowledge of best practices in energy efficient construction and renovation, architecture, electricity infrastructure technologies and policies.
- Test and measurement experience with mechanical / HVAC equipment (other buildings related technologies) and operation of environmental test chambers or other facility operation experience.
- Strong analysis skills, experience with energy code or energy analysis approaches and software packages, and / or experience with programs that develop and promote technologies and best practices for energy efficiency are desired.
- Experience in the energy efficiency and or electricity infrastructure industry and possesses a recognized reputation working for or with energy efficiency, utilities, architecture / engineering firms, code enforcement offices, state / local government, regional energy efficiency organizations, research organizations, universities, or others who operate in the residential construction and renovation industries.
- Growing technical expertise in building energy systems and / or appliance energy efficiency, codes and standards and / or energy efficiency science.
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering experience with facilities / building engineering experience.
- Knowledge with the use of the following software : LabVIEW, AutoCAD, JCI Metasys, Tridium Niagara.
