Position Summary
The Maintenance Custodian supports Bellevue College’s primary mission by cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining internal and external areas of all College Facilities and other assets;
Performs routine maintenance work on buildings, facilities and equipment; Assists with cleaning and rearranging spaces as required for events and conferences.
The Maintenance Custodian will report to the Custodial Supervisor and the Operations Manager.
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Position Salary Range : $38,748 / year - $51,312 / year
The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WFSE Collective Bargaining Agreement.

About the Department
The Bellevue College (BC) Custodial Services Department within Campus Operations supports the College’s primary mission by cleaning and maintaining internal and external areas of all College Facilities and other assets.
The department works in compliance with local, state and federal laws and agencies by following BC’s policies, follows and maintains safety procedures and follow-up Campus Operations program on accidents and safety prevention techniques.
The department also follows APPA’s Operational Guidelines as well as continuously improves work methods, knowledge of equipment, supplies and safety through participation in routine training sessions.
Essential Functions
Performs various housekeeping, janitorial and custodial tasks and routine custodial maintenance work
- Maintains floor areas; Cleans and disinfects various buildings, offices, rooms, labs, common areas, institutional and non-institutional facilities, showers and restrooms.
- Moves, repairs, assembles, and installs furniture and equipment; Polishes furniture and metal fixtures; washes windows.
- Keeps building entrances and walkways free of ice, snow, leaves, garbage and other debris.
- Operates machinery necessary to perform job.
Upkeep Storage closets, equipment and supplies
- Maintains and repairs a variety of heavy-duty machines; Maintains parts and equipment supplies.
- Replaces drive wheels, shafts, gears, valves and electrical switches.
- Replaces furnishings, burned out light bulbs / fixtures and other miscellaneous objects.
- Upkeeps the custodial storage rooms, maintain inventory of supplies and products as needed and the assigned equipment.
- Maintains assigned equipment to be clean and in a proper working order; reports broken equipment to the custodial supervisor or operations manager for repair.
- Communicates directly with shift lead, supervisor or Manager any job-related needs to complete assigned job.
Facilitates work request system and support other BC functions and events
- Reports building damage and malfunctions in a computerized facilities management system, document damage or need of service on the Work Request’ form and submit to the Communication Coordinator or Custodial Supervisor.
- Instructs other personnel on techniques to operate machinery necessary to perform job.
- Maintains communication and relationship with Custodial Supervisor and Operations Manager.
- Moves furniture and equipment; Set-ups and break-downs of campus functions and special events including stages, podiums, tables, chairs, partitions, etc.
- Improves work methods, knowledge of equipment, supplies and safety through participation in training sessions with supervisors.
Supports Campus Operations Procedures for cleaning and safety
- Maintains assigned area in a clean and safe condition according to BC’s procedures.
- Assists in covering other runs due to absentees, in accordance to need.
Comply with laws and BC’s procedures
- Ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws and agencies by following BC’s policies, procedures and direction directed by the Operations management or supervisor.
- Follows and maintains safety procedures and follow-up Campus Operations program on accidents and safety prevention techniques.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) year Custodial experience.
- Valid Washington driver license or ability to obtain one upon employment.
- Knowledge of the methods, tools, materials and equipment used in the maintenance custodial work.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Physical ability to do required work as lift, push, pull working loads of up to 50 pounds.
- Work with arms overhead, kneel, bend, crawl and squat.
- Ability to work off a ladder (up to 8 feet).
- Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment with diverse employees and student / customer groups.

- Knowledge of safe working practices.
- Must be able to multi task and manage workload in fast-paced environment.
