About The Position
Job Title : Registered Nurse - Psych Job Specialty : Behavioral Health - Inpatient Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 12 Hour Variable Guaranteed Hours : 36 hours per week Experience : 1.
5 years preferred; first-time travelers accepted with more than 2 years of experience License : Valid South Dakota Registered Nurse (RN) license Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), preferred prior to start but can obtain on assignment Must-Have : Completion of an accredited nursing education program Job Description : Work in a Behavioral Health Inpatient unit treating psychiatric patients, including children / adolescents (ages 5-17) and adults- Diagnose and treat disorders such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, psychosis, and adjustment disorders- Maintain patient ratios of RN : 1 : 8 with a tech and LPN : 1 : 8 with a tech- Be able to perform take downs and physical restraints when necessary, including managing seclusion rooms and holding patients for medication administration- Utilize verbal de-escalation and provide group didactic sessions- Administer own medications, including injectables and oral medications, and manage care plans- Conduct admission screens, assessments, minor wound care, and use of EKGs and glucometers- Handle telephone or verbal orders, acknowledge orders, and perform vital sign checks- Complete Columbia suicide risk screenings, end-of-shift reports, and discharge planning- Collaborate in a team nursing approach- Maintain communication with on-call medical staff, utilize security support with panic alarms, and work with a Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) available 24 / 7- Use EPIC charting and Omnicell for medication dispensing- Float between three floors of the Behavioral Health facility when needed and within the scope of practice- Participate in a flexible scheduling system without blocked scheduling, including every other weekend and combo shifts as needed- Work major holidays with the expectation of sharing holiday shifts- Participate in facility and departmental orientation, including I-Learns and on-shift training Other Notes : Navy scrubs required, approval for time off through supervisors, and noted restrictions on time off during key events.
