General Summary :
The Finance organization is in the midst of a large-scale transformation effort to ignite change by bringing people, processes, and data together to deliver trusted insights that drive Unum's growth and enable us to protect more families, their finances, and their futures.
As a Business Analyst II supporting Finance transformation efforts, you will play a critical role in our Agile project teams.
You will work closely with stakeholders to understand customer needs, gather and analyze business requirements, and translate them into actionable user stories for team members.
Your work will ensure that the solutions we develop meet business objectives and add value to our Finance business processes and product.
While understanding technical finance and data concepts is beneficial, the primary focus is on business processes, requirements, and stakeholder engagement rather than technical implementation.
This is a hybrid opportunity, defined as 2 days onsite per week at our Portland, ME, Chattanooga, TN, Columbia, SC or Atlanta, GA campus.
Job Specifications :
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of systems and business analysis experience
- Requirements gathering, work decomposition, change management processes
- Project management process
- Extensive experience estimating business efforts and acting as a business liaison on mid to long-range planning and analysis sessions for large, complex, and / or cross-functional projects
- Gather, track, and analyze data sources for process that require a substantial technical understanding
- Self-starter, adapts and works effectively within a rapidly changing business and technical environment
- Strong mentoring skills
- Understands team dynamics what works / what doesn't
- Ability to deal with ambiguity on large and complex projects and able to coach other BA’s and / or SME’s through ambiguous project situations

Requirements Gathering and Analysis :
- Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborates with various stakeholders (e.g., business users, product owners, managers) to understand and capture their needs and expectations.
- User Stories and Acceptance Criteria : Translates business requirements into detailed user stories and acceptance criteria that guide the development team.
Facilitating Communication :
- Liaison Role : Acts as a bridge between the business and technical teams, ensuring clear and effective communication.
- Workshops and Meetings : Facilitates workshops, meetings, and discussions to ensure all team members have a shared understanding of project goals and requirements.
Supporting Agile Practices :
- Agile Ceremonies : Participates in Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Backlog Management : Assists the product owner in prioritizing and refining the product backlog.
Continuous Improvement :
- Process Optimization : Identifies opportunities for process improvements and recommends changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Feedback Loops : Incorporates feedback from stakeholders and end-users to continually refine and improve the product.
Key Skills and Attributes :

Understanding of Agile Methodologies :

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$63,500.00-$114,300.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.
5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
