Job Description
The Email Marketing Manager is a member of the University’s Marketing and Communications team. The Email Marketing Manager will work closely with internal stakeholders across the University to drive best-in-class email marketing activities.
The Email Marketing Manager is a skilled professional responsible for planning, implementing, and managing email marketing campaigns.
The incumbent will utilize their expertise in web technologies, copywriting, and analytics to create engaging emails, newsletters, and related web content through effective communication with prospective students, families, alumni, current students and other key audiences.
This position will work closely with the various schools, colleges, and units across campus to develop email content, landing page content, workflows, and analytic reports to launch email campaigns and monitor success.
The Email Marketing Manager will be a close partner with key individuals in the Office of Prospective Students to create, monitor, and manage workflows and contacts in the CRM system to track lead generation and progress in the buyer journey.
In addition to email content, the Email Marketing Manager will also partner with the rest of the MarCom team to help develop copy and content for web, digital ads, social media, and traditional media as needed to align campaigns.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable taking on new challenges and developing new processes. They will be detail-oriented and able to process multiple email workflows at once.
They will be an excellent writer and capable of partnering with different stakeholders with unique and sometimes competing goals.
Major Responsibilities Include :
Email Marketing Management
Manage email marketing channels and campaign activation, including identifying requirements, reviewing email copy, and partnering with internal teams for email design templates and graphics, testing, launching, and reporting
Create automated email workflow sequences for each stage of the marketing funnel to drive engagement and leads
Manage subscriber databases, opt-ins, opt-outs, bounces and unsubscribes
Communicate email campaign updates to key stakeholders in a timely manner and actively participate in regular planning sessions to keep activities on track
Conduct A / B testing and implement optimization techniques to maximize effectiveness of email campaigns
Monitor, analyze, report on, and optimize for key metrics including open rates, CTRs, and engagement activities
Ensure campaigns comply with relevant laws (CAN-SPAM Act, GDPR)
Content Development
Develop engaging and relevant email content, from copy to multimedia elements
Partner with schools, colleges, and units across the University to ensure on-brand, relevant messaging that’s tailored to appropriate audience segments
Coordinate with the Communications team, President’s Office and Provost’s Office to create content and manage internal email communications to the University
Create value-add landing pages for data collection and prospect conversion
Design email headers, templates and other graphic elements related to email and related landing pages
Copywriting and content creation for email, web, and traditional media as needed
Policy, Administration and Systems Management
Develop formal email processes and procedures for the University and units
Maintain a project timeline and track deliverables within our project management system to ensure on-time delivery of email marketing activities
Work cross-functionally with schools, colleges, units, the Office of Prospective Students and MarCom to align on email channel initiatives and goals
Track email best practices, industry trends, and make proactive recommendations on how best to increase deliverability and engagement in email channels
Evaluate email systems used and provide recommendations for upgrades or changes
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience, OR
Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience.
Related Experience :
Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or related area
Demonstrated experience managing email marketing
Content development / copywriting
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent writing skills and ability to create content in a compelling way that engages target audiences
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple campaigns efficiently
Experience working with Slate or comparable email campaign platforms
Knowledge of email marketing laws (CAN-SPAM Act, GDPR)
Strong analytical skills and data interpretation
Proficient in design tools such as InDesign, Canva, and Figma
Competent in email and webpage design
Proficiency in marketing automation technology
Knowledge of SEO / SEM and Google Analytics
