Dean of Students and Senior Associate VP of Student Life
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life, the Dean of Students and Senior Associate Vice President of Student Life is a senior administrator providing guidance and direction to all students at Manhattan College.
The Dean of Students supervises the areas of Counseling, Health Services, and Career Pathways. The Dean of Students and Senior AVP upholds the student code of conduct by coordinating all judicial affairs for the College community.
This is a multifaceted position that interacts with all campus constituents to uphold the Community Standards and Student Code of Conduct.
We are looking for an engaging and thoughtful leader, who will also serve as the senior VP in a vibrant student life division.
Responsibilities Include :
Serves as the Chief Student Conduct Office of the College, overseeing the Community Standards and Student Code of Conduct.
Coordinate with the College’s Title IX officer for cases involving sexual misconduct.
Coordinate with Deans, Academic Success, and Provost’s office on academic integrity violations.
Directly schedule and oversee investigations, judiciary hearings, appeals, disciplinary actions and grievances; manage communications on all actions and ensure comprehensive notes are documented in Maxient.
Directly manage Maxient platform. Manage any external reporting required of the Dean of Students.
Provide leadership for student crises with discretion, tact, and a strong sense of community. Ability to manage conversations with parents and legal guardians, community members, students, and colleagues during crisis situations.
Manage student life policy development and serve on the policy committee.
Chair the campus safety committee, which includes students, faculty, and administration representatives.
Chair and develop standard operating protocols for the Campus Assessment, Resource, and Education (CARE) Team. Ensure that student issues are responded to in a timely manner.
Supervises the following director reports : the Directors of Counseling, Director Health Services, and the Director of Career Pathways.
Manage the vision and development of co-op programs in collaboration with academic affairs.
Directly support programming for orientation and opening weekend. Collaborate with student engagement, Title IX, and other areas to target programming for compliance of community standards.
Develops and implements programming focused on student needs, including wellness, inclusion and belonging, and return on investment.
Manage, track and respond to direct inquiries and issues from parents, students, faculty.
Be present and visible in the College community by connecting with students on campus, including dining halls, co-curricular spaces, and other spaces students gather.
Lead the development of key performance indicators, budgets, and annual reports for the units within Student life that report to the Dean.
Serve on college-wide committees and act as representative of the VP of Student Life when requested. Serve as a cross-divisional representative on Academic Affairs leadership groups including Provost Group.
Remain current with best practices student affairs, management and with trends and issues as they relate to today’s college students.
Lead special projects as assigned by the VP of Student Life.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Master’s degree from an accredited College in the United States and 8-10 years work experience, including progressively responsible positions within an educational setting and significant management experience are required;
doctorate preferred. Proven experience developing strong leaders and supervising teams.
The ideal candidate will possess the capacity to make and stand by difficult decisions, always mindful of the need for policy development and consistency.
A strong advocate for Manhattan College, the institution’s priorities, and its mission; an energetic and conscientious administrator broadly familiar with issues in higher education as they relate to all aspects of the undergraduate and graduate student experience.
Some weekends, nights, and on call duties are required.
