This paralegalposition is in the Licensing Investigations Department and reportsto the Licensing Investigations Manager.

This position isresponsible for gathering evidence required to conductinvestigations of allegations of misconduct including sensitiveissues such as substance abuse and sexual misconduct.

Dutiesinclude applying careful analysis and comprehension of the evidence(legal documents public records research) and compiling theinformation into a comprehensive written report.

This position mayalso be required to present the completed cases before the ArizonaMedical Board and testify before the Office of AdministrativeHearings.

This position requires prioritizing organizing andconducting investigations. The successful candidate should alsounderstand how to interpret statutes and rules.

This position willhandle calls to / from consumers or businesses as assigned by theDepartment Manager. This position requires excellent communicationand customer service skills;

the ability to prioritize caseload bea selfstarter and type 60 wpm with accuracy.

SkillsRequired :

Knowledge oflegal research methods and resources and the ability to conductlegal research using library materials.

  • Knowledgeof rules of citation statutes and the Administrative Code.
  • Knowledgeof the jurisdictions and functions of local state and federalcourts and related government agencies.
  • Knowledgeof civil litigation procedures.
  • Skilled inlegal research and in the communication of facts and legaltheories.
  • Skilled inpresenting cases in a hearing or trial setting.
  • Advancedand effective skills in both oral and written communications.
  • Ability towork independently or in a group setting.
  • Ability tobe a selfstarter with minimal supervision.
  • Ability tocommunicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability towork with the public and to grasp points being made by otherswhether by consumers businesses case attorneys the judges ruling oropposing counsel s argument oral or written.
  • Ability torecognize legal issues presented by specific factual situationsthis includes the ability to extract information from legaldocuments and records.
  • Ability touse computerized word processing programs.
  • Ability toorganize large numbers of documents for ready availability to theattorney and others.
  • Ability toproduce complete accurate and factual research based upon evidence.
  • Ability toprepare complex memoranda and correspondence.
  • Ability tounderstand complex legal issues and cases and to write about themclearly and accurately and in a manner that is easily understood bythe public.
  • SelectivePreference(s ) : Four years fulltime employment asa paralegal ;or three years fulltime employment with the State of Arizona as aProject Specialist;

or any equivalent paralegal or legal education and / or experience

EducationPreference : Paralegal Certificate or Associates of Arts orbetter
