TheDepartment of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BIO), F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, invites highly qualified candidates to applyfor the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure eligible track).
- The Department of Biochemistry & MolecularBiology’s mission is to conduct basic science research in biochemistry and molecular biology that increases our understanding offundamental biological processes which in turn leads to advances that contribute to the well-being and health care of all individuals;
- provide medical students in the uniformed services with knowledge of the basic biochemical and molecular biological processes involved inall medically related disciplines so that they may become highly competent physicians and improve military medical readiness through anunderstanding of the molecular basis of normal and pathologic states;
and to train graduate students to become highly skilled andindependent scientists whose careers contribute to the further understanding of fundamental biological processes that promote the well-beingand health of all individuals.
Duties : The incumbent will serve as an Assistant or Associate Professor within theDepartment of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and as such will be responsible for teaching, research, and administrativeassignments.
Supervises groups of medical students, interns, residents and postdoctoral graduate assistants at the tutorial level inthe laboratory.
Responsible for teaching new laboratory techniques, use of new equipment and reviewing quality control. Prepares materialsfor presentation, provides daily supervision to students and reviews student performance.
Serves as principal graduate advisor topredoctoral and postdoctoral assistants in guiding their training programs. Prepares and presents lectures in area of major expertise toentire student body.
Participates in and supervises daily research work at the bench level and is responsible for data review andanalysis from individuals within the incumbent’s area of responsibility.
Participates in investigational, research anddevelopment projects, directs experimental activities, evaluates data, draws conclusions and publishes results.
Reviews and critiquesresearch and development areas, and develops, monitors and evaluates contractual research and development arrangements.
Serves as researchadvisor to graduate students in field of expertise, assists in planning programs, setting objectives, evaluating progress, etc.
Writes and edits for publication, texts, articles, monographs, and other materials for use in the source of study and for researchpurposes.
Responsible for ascertaining the availability of logistics support.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limitedto serving on major standing committees, preparing staff reports;
representing the University at professional gatherings, deliveringlectures, and participating in meetings and panel discussions at other institutions.
QualificationRequirements : The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of an M.D. or Ph.D. degree, plus substantial experience inmedical school teaching, educational administration, personnel management, research and development, expertise and experience as reflectedby a significant number of scientific publications in critically reviewed scientific journals appropriate to the incumbents research, andpossess active membership in scholarly societies appropriate to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
The successfulcandidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in accordance with SOM andUSUHS academic policy.
The following knowledge and / or experiences are highly desirable but not a requirement : experience with medicalapplications of electronic data processing.

Relocation expenses i.e., PCS or relocation incentives as described in 5 U.S.C 5733 may be authorized inaccordance with applicable travel regulations, command policy and available command funding.
