Associate Director for Student Success Initiatives
Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges.
It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

This is a full time restricted classified position. Continuation of employment is based on funding availability.
The Associate Director for Student Success Initiatives will play a pivotal role in managing and guiding resources and initiatives that focus on providing VPCC students with support to meet their needs, connecting them with campus and community resources with a focus on degree completion and post education success.
This position serves as an integral part of leading the holistic student success, retention, and graduation, while also contributing positively to the Student Experience, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
The position oversees the Great Expectations program which helps Virginia’s foster youth complete high school, gain access to a community college education and transition successfully from the foster care system to living independently.
The position also provides support at the college level to increase foster youth participation and success in high school and college.
The Associate Director provides leadership and supervision to the Minority Male Success Initiative, the Single Stop Program, Student Life and Leadership, and the Success Coaching initiative.
KSA's / Required Qualifications
- Experience in program development and implementation.
- Experience in providing supervision, training, and support to support staff.
- Experience managing a budget.
- Relevant multi-year work experience.
- Experience with outreach in student support and education services.
Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of the philosophy of student support services in relation to the total college program.
- Knowledge of college admission policies and procedures; general policies and procedures within enrollment services and student life, and the academic needs of college students.
Skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels.
- Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population to include high school students, parents, community college faculty, staff and administrators, and the public.
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work accurately in a fast paced, multi-tasked, deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain confidentiality and discretion.
- Ability to facilitate training to include planning, developing, and coordinating presentations.
- Demonstrated experience with documentation and data collection.
- Ability to work at all campus locations.
Additional Considerations
- Experience in a high school or community college setting.
- Work experience advising / coaching students in an academic setting.
