Miami Children's Museum is looking for a new ECI Assistant Teacher to join their team!

The ECI Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in developing and implementing a program of activities that promotes the social, emotional and physical development of each child as per the National Association of The Education of Young Children and the Department of Children and Families early childhood standards.

The duties and responsibilities will be carried out under the direction of the Lead Teacher and / or the director and manager of The Early Childhood Institute.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Responsible for safety and health giving first and foremost consideration to the wellbeing and safety of the children both indoors and outdoors as well as assisting children with toileting and other personal matters.

Comforts children who are hurt or distressed. Attends to sick children and those in need of first aide.

  • Assists in developing and implementing the daily lesson plans in conjunction with the Lead Teacher that corresponds to the High Scope curriculum and the Reggio Emilia approach, for weekly submission to center ECI director or manager.
  • Maintains a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.
  • Develops a positive relationship with each child and promotes the development of self-esteem and self- discipline. Encourages children to question and explore the world in which they live.
  • Observes each child’s growth and development and notes behavioral changes and shares these observations with the Lead Teacher to facilitate children’s learning and growth.
  • Supports the lead teacher in preparation for parent conferences as well as implementation of assessment documentation, family special events and activities.
  • Participates in staff meetings, center activities and staff development workshops
  • Portrays positive attitudes with children in resolving conflicts, identifying feelings, describing problems, negotiating differences and generating solutions.

Assistant Teacher encourages cooperation and redirects unacceptable behavior as well as using positive approaches to help children deal with anger and frustration.

  • Committed to the concept of teamwork, sharing of ideas, materials and services. Assistant Teacher works in a professional manner with peers and supervisors and is willing to share responsibilities and assume other tasks in emergencies.
  • Responsible for completing a minimum of 30 hours of inservice course work yearly, that reinforces the proponents of best practices for early care and education.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures in the Early Childhood Institute’s Staff Handbook and The Miami Children’s Museum’s Employee Handbook
  • Reports to the ECI Director and Center Manager throughout the year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High School Diploma
  • Insight and enthusiasm for children, families and community
  • Demonstrates the ability to work well with young children and their families
  • Sound verbal and writing skills and strong organizational skills.
  • CDA and / or A.A. degree in Early Childhood Education, Museum Studies, or related field
  • Minimum of 1 year assistant teaching experience in a preschool environment.
  • The Department of Children and Families 45 hour courses.
  • Pediatric First Aid and CPR certificate
