Financial Analyst

Prepares financial reports, conducts special projects, and provides financial analysis to all levels of management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and monitors departmental budget.
  • Analyzes financial documents, statistical data, and presents to and interprets for management.
  • Supports development director by providing financial and statistical aspects of grant submissions including project budgets, progress reports, and final reports.
  • Participates in the establishment and maintenance of cost accounting systems.
  • Works with program director and managers to determine program fees and other products and services.
  • Serves as department coordinator / liaison for purchasing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, human resources, sponsored projects, governmental accounting, and risk management.
  • Administers program registration system (Technotic / Atlas) and ensures system integrity, timely deposits of ACH funds;

generates reports, trains staff, and troubleshoots issues with program developers.

  • Represents the organization and coordinates all aspects of financial audits.
  • Ensures compliance with departmental and University policies and procedures and provides training on financial issues or procedures to program staff.
  • Audits accounting systems, reconciles data, and resolves technical problems or recommends solutions when appropriate.
  • Analyzes trends and possible consequences.
  • Recommends and implements improvements that affect accounting systems and departmental operations.
  • May assist in the office as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience);
  • plus two years of related experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices;

spreadsheet and database skills; knowledge of statistics and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relation and effective communication skills required.

An advanced degree, such as a Master’s of Business Administration, is preferred. Certain positions may require familiarity with hospital billing systems, Medicare and insurance reimbursement regulations, etc.

Preferences

Highly skilled in Excel and related products. Able and willing to quickly learn and master new software. Expected to be the person in the organization to know the most across several software options, including but not limited to : PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and payment processing applications.
