Position Summary
The Department of Epidemiology at the University of Iowa College of Public Health is seeking applicants for a 50% Program Coordinator position.
The Program Coordinator will coordinate the scale up of the Iowa Refugee Mental Health program funded by the Iowa Bureau of Refugee Services.
Coordinate and provide support to the roll out of the World Health Organizations’ Problem Management Plus ( PM+) intervention across Iowa.
Key areas of responsibility include project and operations management, communication and outreach, compliance, and quality improvement.
Responsibilities
Operational Management
Provide clinical supervision to PM+ Helpers, one hour per week for each identified PM+ Helper to do the following :
oAnalyze client data with the Helper, ensure that the assessment data is entered consistently and correctly
oHold PM+ Helpers accountable for covering all content of each PM+ session
oHold PM+ Helpers accountable for meeting with clients in a timely manner
oProvide feedback and recommendations
oProcess with Helpers how they are managing their own emotional well being
oRe-teach strategies and helping skills as needed
oModel and encourage professional and ethical behavior and
oProvide documentation of mentoring meetings
oProvide group supervision for Helpers who have mastered basic skills
oConnect Helpers to continuing education opportunities
Assist with the development of the curriculum for the PM+ Helpers Training (July and August)
oWork as a member of the team to finalize class syllabus
oAssist with the organization of resources and materials
oAssist with organization of quizzes
oCollaborate with the Distance Learning
Lead the Training for Eastern Iowa
oAssist with Helper selection and screening
oLead weekly planning meeting with co-trainers
oScore the Helpers’ pre and post training videos
oRecruit and coordinate Buddies
oRecruit, train and coordinate practice clients
Coordinate a state-wide Virtual training
oCollaborate with UI Distance Learning Department
oRecruit and coordinate trainers
oAssist with Helper selection and screening
oLead weekly planning meetings with trainers
oScore the Helpers pre and post training videos
oRecruit and coordinate Buddies
oRecruit, train and coordinate practice clients
Communication and Outreach
- Meet weekly with State-wide Coordinator
- Meet regularly with Local Coordinator
- Meet regularly with other clinical mentors
- Meet weekly with Graduate assistant data collection
Quality Improvement
Coordinate program activities to ensure compliance with University of Iowa policies, procedures, practices and programs, as well as with federal, state and local legal / regulatory standards
Required Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Social Work or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of one year clinical experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
- Previous experience interacting with, maintaining relationships, and communicating effectively with various stakeholders.
- Ability to travel frequently within the State of Iowa is required. Ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standard.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desirable Qualification
Trained as a Trainer for Problem Management Plus.
Desirable Qualification
- Ability to speak another language of refugee populations in Iowa.
- Previous experience working with refugees, the federal refugee policy, resettlement programs at the State or National level.
- Some knowledge of the mental health care system.
