JOB SUMMARY
Coterra is looking to add a Staff Tax Accountant to our team in Houston, Texas. This Staff Tax Accountant role is responsible for performing tax compliance, provision, research, and planning.
The role is designed for individuals who enjoy working independently within a larger accounting team. However, collaboration within the team is welcomed and encouraged.
This role will also have the opportunity to be mentored by more senior-level accountants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Below is a list of the typical duties this role will perform on a daily basis. It is not an exhaustive list as there may be other tasks assigned at any given time.

- Assist in the preparation of tax provision schedules and calculations, and record adjusting journal entries.
- Assist in the preparation of the federal return, make estimated payments, etc.
- Prepare state income and franchise tax returns, annual reports, payments, and necessary paperwork.
- Assist during federal and state tax audits.
- Respond to notices from tax authorities.
- Maintain the tax calendar for miscellaneous tax filings.
- Research tax laws and regulations.
- Coordinate administration of the offsite tax records storage.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to successfully complete the job.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Oil & gas taxation experience preferred, but not required.
- Possess a high degree of proficiency with MS Office products (specifically Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Prior experience with P2 / Oracle accounting software, GoSystems / OneSource tax compliance software, and Sage Fixed Assets DD&A software is desirable but not required.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills.
- Outstanding organizational, research, written and verbal communication skills.
- CPA License preferred, but not required.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, with a concentration in Taxation
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
This position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in Tax. Oil and gas taxation experience is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Your work requires tying, sitting and standing and will typically be performed indoors in an office environment. However, there may be a time you need to visit an operations worksite.
In that situation, personal protection equipment, including head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame-resistant clothing is required.
Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced. Employees may be asked to work extended hours during peak periods or deadlines.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Percent of Travel Required : Less than 5%. Travel may be required for mandatory meetings or training.
