Mission or Goal of Unit :

The mission of the School of Nursing is to shape the future of nursing through the power of education, discovery, and collaboration.

Chief Purpose of this position :

VCU School of Nursing is seeking candidates fora 12-month full-time, tenure-eligible faculty position at the rank of AssociateProfessor or Professor in the School of Nursing.

The incoming faculty willpossess a strong track record of nursing research with external funding andwillingness and ability to provide visionary leadership and mentorship offaculty colleagues and students.

The candidate should have research intereststhat complement and expand existing expertise in the School of Nursing.Research areas of particular interest include biobehavioral clinical research forpopulations across the lifespan, wellness and health equity promotion, communityengaged research, and healthcare systems science, including quality and safetyresearch.

The candidate will also support the school with teachingresponsibilities at the graduate level, through the advisement and mentorshipof doctoral students, and leadership of the PhD program as needed.

Rank and salary are commensurate with experienceand preparation.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Maintains a program of research supported by external funding
  • Contributes to enhanced effectiveness of the community of scholars
  • Maintains teaching activity in the PhD program
  • Demonstrates commitment to contributing to VCU’s Quest 2028 (
  • Engages faculty, students, and staff to foster a diverse community at VCU
  • Demonstrates an integrated academic life, contributing to the teaching, research, and service missions in an urban research-intensive university with an academic health sciences center

Required Qualifications :

  • Research doctoral degree with at least one graduate degree in nursing.
  • Active RN license or eligible for licensure in Virginia
  • Demonstrated achievement in scholarship with an established program of research that complements the areas of emphasis within the School, including but not limited to biobehavioral, wellness and health equity promotion, community engaged research, and healthcare systems science,.
  • Current or past funded research
  • Teaching experience at the PhD level
  • Demonstrated excellence in and passion for mentoring colleagues and students
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • PhD leadership experience including curriculum development and / or program review or assessment
  • Record of accomplishments in scholarship and professional service
  • Demonstrated or potential excellence in leadership skills, including excellence in working effectively with others

Salary Range : Commensurate with experience
