Position Summary
The University of New Mexico Internal Audit Department is seeking an Internal Auditor. This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated professional to be an integral staff member of an important independent department.
The Department reports administratively to the UNM's President and functionally to the UNM Board of Regents' Audit and Compliance Committee.
Internal Audit is currently looking for an auditor to assist UNM personnel in effectively, efficiently, and economically fulfilling their assigned responsibilities by providing objective analyses of the activities reviewed.
The auditor's job is to perform operational, compliance, financial, and investigative audits of intermediate complexity, provide management advisory services.
Work is occasionally detailed and errors may cause delays, disrupt activities, and affect the accuracy of an audit.
Duties and responsibilities for the Internal Auditor include :
- Develop audit plans and perform initial and follow-up audits in accordance with professional standards.
- Evaluate audit findings; prepare and present the results of audit work and recommendations to management in the form of oral and written communications.
- Coordinate and interact with administrators, faculty, staff, and external audit and law enforcement agencies, as needed.
- Consult with and advise university administrators, faculty, and staff on operational and administrative issues.
- May supervise and / or lead lower graded staff and / or student employees.
- Keep abreast of University policies and procedures, current developments in accounting and auditing professions, and changes in local, state, and federal laws, as applicable.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Accounting, MBA, MPA, etc.
- Banner experience.
- Electronic work paper software experience.
- Intermediate or higher working level in spreadsheets that show ability to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and / or projections.
- Intermediate or higher working level in word processing.
