Responsibilities
The Assistant Research Scientist will assist with performing public health DNA sequencing in the Advanced Genomic Technologies Cluster (AGTC), including next-generation sequencing (NGS) of SARS-CoV-2.
The incumbent will assist with the entire sequencing process from sample accessioning to review of the results. In addition, the incumbent will learn new methods and automated technologies as they are developed to continually improve sequencing services.
The incumbent will perform other appropriate related duties.
This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and one year of research experience;
OR a master’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science.
This position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with next generation sequencing and liquid handling robots. Experience working in a clinical laboratory and familiarity with quality control measures.
