Senior Associate, Research & Policy, Managing Fiscal Risks (State Budgeting)

  • Foster a work environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible and in line with Pew and the project's related goals.
  • Conduct policy research and provide recommendations for policy and practice changes.
  • Contribute to research reports and issue briefs; critically review and fact-check materials produced by contractors and other staff.
  • Monitor key activities of federal and state governments, academia, and advocacy groups that relate to states' response to federal spending.
  • Identify and develop relationships with government and non-governmental stakeholders and support outreach efforts to help advance project goals.
  • Represent Pew at meetings and convenings; comfortably discuss complex subject matter with stakeholders, including government officials.

Participate in activities that support program and Pew-wide objectives.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Excellent research and analytical skills, including synthesizing large sets of information and identifying key themes.
  • Skilled at informing and influencing internal and external audiences through written and oral communications.
  • Fiscal policy experience preferred, specifically with federal spending practices in states and state budgeting processes.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Generally, four years of applicable experience.

Key attributes and preferred experience

  • Naturally develops and manages productive and collaborative relationships.
  • Familiarity with relevant research and policy topics and knowledge of state and federal government, including budgeting processes.
  • Experience working with or in federal and / or state government is highly preferred.

This position requires occasional domestic travel to meetings and conferences.
