Brandeis University invites applications for a part-time Lecturer in the Department of Psychology to teach Clinical Practicum II (PSYC 161b) during the spring semester of 2025.
In conjunction with PSYC 161a, offered in the fall, this course provides intensive supervised experience in mental health intervention.
Students serve in helping roles as volunteers for eight hours a week in social service and mental health programs. They relate their experience to empirical and literary readings within the context of group supervision in weekly seminars.
The goal of this is to train to : explain and apply the fundamentals of evidence-based case formulation; develop cultural humility by exploring and appreciating the ways that students’ past experiences, positionality, and worldviews influence their understanding of others;
integrate knowledge of the ethical principles of clinical practice with firsthand experience in a helping role; and assess the ways students’ own developmental histories have contributed to strengths and areas for growth as future clinicians.
Essential & Non-Essential Job Functions :
- Conducting weekly seminar meetings for a minimum of three hours weekly
- Conducting placement training and supporting students in their placements.
- Grading student work & assigning final grades
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience :
- Previous experience teaching psychology courses
- Demonstrated understanding of current research in the field
- Work experience in clinical settings
- degree, or the equivalent, in Clinical Psychology or a related discipline
