General Statement
Under supervision, performs skilled manual work in connection with the construction, alteration and repair of structures and other items built with brick, concrete block, hollow tile, terra cotta or other building materials used in the trade and in laying sewer pipe and building or repairing sewer manholes and control structures, performing all bricklaying work within the jurisdictional limitations of the trade.

- Lays brick or other building materials of the bricklaying trade in constructing, altering and repairing buildings, walls, partitions, bulkheads, foundations, chimneys, pavements, gutters, manholes, catch basins, sewers and boiler or furnace settings.
- Mixes and tempers lime or cement mortar, applies mortar, lays brick or other material and fastens with or to anchors as required;
checks alignment, finishes mortar between joints and performs similar bricklaying duties in accordance with recognized procedures and techniques.
- Cuts out and points defective joints.
- Erects and dismantles scaffolding or rigging as required by the work.
- Conducts work in a safe manner and in accordance with established safety rules and practices.

Environmental Conditions
May involve exposure to a variety of operating mechanical equipment and loud noise and / or noxious odors. May include working in all types of weather conditions throughout the plant facility and collection system.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the bricklaying trade.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment of the bricklaying trade.
- Ability to work from blueprints and to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of laboring assistants in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and completion of an approved apprenticeship training program in bricklaying, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Substitution
Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
