Beaufort Memorial, a not-for-profit hospital, is excited to bring its Emergency Department services in-house and is seeking additional board-certified Emergency Medicine Physicians to join our dedicated team.
About the opportunity :
- Join a team of board-certified Emergency Medicine Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers
- Varying shift lengths : 8, 9 or 10 hour shifts - mostly day shift with some nights
- Average patients per hour is 2.0
- Diverse case mix wiht no shortage of procedures; proficiency in all ER procedures expected
- 24 / 7 in-house support from Anesthesia, Pediatric Hospitalists and Hospitalists
- Trama surgery available on-call
- Access to a wide range of on-call specialties : Othopedics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, ENT, GI, Nephrology, General Surgery and Vascular Surgery
- Intensivist coverage in-house from 7A-7P; Hospitalists cover ICU overnight with intensivist on call
- The ED does not respond to hospital airways or codes
- FAST track option available for ESI 3-5 patients
Position Requirements
Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patients' medical, physical and psychological status, including histories and physical examinations.
Develops treatment plans individualized to the patient's needs. Records notes in the medical record. Implements physician directed treatment plans, writes orders for medications, treatments, tests, and provides patient care.
Dispenses medication as dictates but the PA's prescriptive privilege, State Law or as a verbal order under the direction of the supervising / alternate supervising physician.
May prescribe any medication appropriate for treatment of patients in a general / vascular surgical practice including medical devices, except Class II, ophthalmic steroids, initiating Class III antiarrhythmics, MAO inhibitors, Anabolic steroids, and sublingual Nifedipine.
Provides education and training to clinical staff in the offices. Operates within the scope of practice outlined by the State of South Carolina.
Education :
- If a Physician Assistant : Bachelors Degree required. Successful completion of a CAAHEP approved program. Successful completion of a national certifying examination given by NCCPA.
- If an Nurse Practitioner : Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nursing. Graduate of an approved NLN or equivalent nursing program.
Experience :
Prefer minimum of 3 years work experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
Certifications / Licenses :
- If a Physician Assistant : Must have / maintain current SC PA licensure.
- If a Nurse Practitioner : Current unrestricted SC Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license with Prescriptive Authority.
