Duties and Responsibilities :
The Family Nurse Practitioner exists to provide quality comprehensive primary health care, health counseling and education programs to the students, faculty, staff and their dependents at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM).
Warhawk Health Services is staffed by The Director, Registered Nurse, Medical Assistant, and Senior Program Associate and is available to students in the Irma B.
Moore Hall on campus. Warhawk Health Services also offers a variety of preventative health services such as health screenings, physical examinations, immunizations, contraceptive counseling and laboratory testing;
The Family Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing effective, efficient and appropriate services to AUM in order to fulfill the university health care needs and to assist with policy development.
- Assist the Senior Director with updating and developing new policies and procedures for the clinic
- Works in collaboration with the billing coordinator for coding, billing, and processing of payments for reimbursement
- Assist with campus orientation as a representative of Warhawk Health Services
- Provides health promotion education on campus as needed
- Precepts AUM NP students as needed
- Maintain BLS certifications
- Interviews patients to obtain history, perform physical examinations, orders and interprets lab and other tests, prescribes medications and treatments
- Provides health maintenance visits, evaluates for immunizations and provides anticipatory guidance and referrals, performs contract and special physical examinations, employment, etc.
performs STD (sexually transmitted disease) testing and family planning screening and education
- Performs medical procedures according to privileges issued
- Documents and codes all patient contact accurately and legibly in the medical record
- Establishes positive relationships with local medical community
- Makes referrals for secondary and tertiary care
- Performs as an active member of the medical team
- Supervises clinic employees in director’s absence
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Works in collaboration with collaborative physician
- Performs Quarterly Chart Audits
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Knowledge of acceptable medical / nursing practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of AUM’s student health / medical policies and procedures.
- Prior EHR experience preferred.
- Self-motivated and well-organized.
- Ability to prioritize workload to achieve maximum efficiency.
- Knowledge of state and federal medical / nursing rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of basic word processing software.
- Skill in providing excellent customer service and support, organizing and prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines, and excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds.
- Ability to work effectively with managers, co-workers, members of the public, and professional groups.
