The Center for Biomedical Research Support (CBRS) is a collection of 10 service centers that operates under the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors (OVPR) and broadly supports the research community on campus and externally.
CBRS serves a central role across all of campus to provide access to cutting-edge technology, expert advice, and centralized services.
CBRS is comprised of core facilities including Biomedical Imaging, Bioinformatics, Biological Mass Spectrometry, Biomedical Research Computing, Cryo-EM imaging, Genome Sequencing, Microscopy / Flow Cytometry and Mouse Genetic Engineering.

Purpose : The Bioinformatics Consulting Group (BCG) at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a full-time Bioinformatics Research Associate to provide bioinformatics and biostatistical support services to researchers at the University of Texas and beyond.
BCG plays a crucial role in supporting research by providing access to computational approaches and analysis support for high throughput biological data, by providing training and education on computational approaches and by serving as a centralized knowledge base of tools and best practices in computational biology.
Responsibilities :
Analyzes and models omics data (genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic, microbiome) using bioinformatics, biostatistics, and machine learning methods.
Prepares, cleans up, and quality-control biological data, including multidimensional omics data modalities.
- Implements and quality-check R / Python / Bash scripts for pipeline automation, data parsing, visualization, and other processing related to omics data analysis.
- Assists in the production of high-quality publication-worthy results and presents results during lab meetings, department, and institutional meetings and seminars, and appropriate scientific conferences.
- Participates in BCG's educational and training efforts by putting together documentation, video tutorials, or in-person teaching.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience or Master's degree and two years of related experience.
- Significant programming experience in either R or Python.
- Knowledge of basic shell scripting.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Ph.D. in a quantitative subject.
- Experience and publication record in bioinformatics and / or computational biology.
- Significant education and / or experience in statistics, biostatistics, and / or machine learning.
- Familiarity with common -omics analysis software.
Salary Range : $60,000 + depending on qualifications
