The Senior Clinical Therapist will work as part of an interdisciplinary, team-based program that cares for patients enrolled in the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT) program at UT Health Austin, Dell Medical School.
TCHATT provides telemedicine or telehealth programs to school districts to help identify and assess the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents and provide access to mental health services.
The Senior Clinical Therapist will provide mental health therapy to children, adolescents, and family members and oversee other counselors providing TCHATT services.
This is a federally and state funded position sponsored by the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC). TCMHCC was created by the 86th Texas Legislature to leverage the expertise and capacity of the health-related institutions of higher education to address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in this state in relation to children, adolescents, and perinatal women.
This position has an end date of 8 / 31 / 2025, but may be renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals.
Purpose
The Senior Clinical Therapist will join our growing multi-disciplinary team to conduct behavioral and mental health assessments, treatment planning, brief interventions, and interdisciplinary team consultation as needed, in compliance with standard regulations, policies and procedures.
This position will provide mental health therapy to children, adolescents, and family members and oversee other counselors providing TCHATT services and will also contribute to program development, lead trainings, and use data to inform programming.
The Senior Clinical Therapist will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, work independently with a strong attention to detail, and effectively communicate through both oral and written communication while possessing a commitment to professional ethical and practice standards.
Responsibilities
Evaluates and provides diagnostic impressions. Formulates treatment plan according to evidence based practices and protocol.
Conducts individual, family and group therapy sessions as needed. Monitors patients for suicidal / homicidal intent and ensures patient safety if necessary.
Undertakes crisis intervention, as needed.
Participates in any supervision, feedback, and quality assurance checks. Maintains client records and performs data entry as required by protocol.
Attends appropriate training workshops, interdisciplinary meetings and client staffing as required. Participates in clinical supervision and oversight of clinical activities for pre-licensure team members, consistent with applicant's own licensure and experience.
Participates in departmental meetings, continuing education opportunities, academic and research opportunities to optimize patient best practice and interdepartmental collaboration.
Serves as a clinical lead and works closely with the social workers on staff to provide mentorship, support, and consultation as needed.
Provides guidance, direction, debriefing, clinical staffing, and support to staff, including care coordinators. May help with coverage, staffing, and workflow optimization.
Demonstrates a deepened knowledge and expertise in treating patients with co-occurring physical and mental health conditions along with addressing patient's psychosocial factors.
Applies clinical experience, condition specific trainings, and certifications to contribute to patients' improved healthcare outcomes.
Participates in the development and implementation of projects, and leading or participating in committees and / or workgroups.
Participates in quality improvement and initiatives that analyze professional practice, outcomes and efficiencies, including peer review, chart review, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Be licensed as an LCSW, LPC, LMFT or equivalent practiced clinician in the State of Texas. Have a minimum of three years of post-degree clinical experience.
Experience working with children, adolescents, and family systems. Strong technological skills and ability to perform computer tasks and utilize electronic health records independently.
Ability to work remotely as needed. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients. Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a variety of other health care professionals (i.
e., physicians, psychologists, social workers, nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, medical assistants).
Maintain a positive, compassionate, and professional attitude when engaging with patients and their family members. Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to professional ethical and practice standards.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Be licensed as an LCSW-S, LPC-S, or LMFT-S in the state of Texas. Have a minimum of five years of post-degree clinical experience providing crisis intervention, care coordination, and case management to children and families.
At least five years of experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient mental health settings. Experience providing school-based mental health services.
Have experience delivering care as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Proficiency in at least one electronic medical records system, e.
g., Athena. Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
Salary Range
$72,000+ depending on qualifications
