As a senior design engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.
Here, you will make an impact by :
- Leading the design of capital equipment machines from concept through plant commissioning working closely with project managers, fabrication, and plant personnel.
- Implementing technology development to provide continuous advancement in technologies such as web handling, coating, curing, and converting.
- Determining design scope, cost, and schedule and actively managing work to meet those commitments
- Supporting existing proprietary process solutions through on-site troubleshooting.
- Implementing design solutions that help the 3M organization meet the challenging sustainability goals established by executive management
- Ensuring production equipment designs meet stringent safety requirements established by both internal and external safety organizations.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications :
- Possess an Associate Degree / Technical Diploma or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start)
- Five (5) years of combined experience in process equipment & design in aprivate, public, government or military environment
- Current, Valid Driver’s license is required.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include :
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 7+ yrs experience in the design, fabrication, and installation of capital equipment
- Experience with NX (Unigraphics), or other advanced solid modeling software and experience in the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with specific experience with structural and thermal analysis.
- Experience with precision machining and fabrication, as well as precision dimensional measurement equipment and techniques.
- Experience in performing kinematic and dynamic analysis of machine components in solving various part assembly operations
- Experience in on-site troubleshooting and commissioning of equipment
- Understanding of web handling, coating, drying, and converting processes and equipment.
- Skills include self-directed leadership, strong verbal and written communications, demonstrated project management and technology leadership
- Hands on experience with start-up, troubleshooting and commissioning of capital manufacturing equipment.

- Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to 3M Center Campus at least 3 days per week)
