Position Summary :
- Nursing services include taking medication orders and supervising the dispensing of medications; charting and medical recording keeping; assessing medical health concerns, including infection control and assuring that needs are met in a timely manner; working with staff nutritionist to meet patients dietary needs; communicating with case managers or adults in charge of patients physical health; assisting with injuries and accidents; and consultation with direct care staff.
Pay :
$32.50-39.50 / hrPlus an additional $3 / hr for nights & an additional $2 / hr for weekend differential
Education :
Graduation from an accredited nursing program, certification as a Registered Nurse.Experience :
Three to six months related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred Experience :
Greater than 1 year of medical surgical nursing experienceLicensure / Certification :
At least 21 years oldValid drivers licenseValid auto insuranceLicensed as a registered nurse in the state of KansasJob Duties / Responsibilities :
Completes nursing health assessment on all patients at admission within 24 hours for Acute Hospitalization and 72 hours after admission to residential servicesAssess walk in admissions and communicate to the on call provider for determination of admissionCompletes daily assessment and vital signs per policyComplete bed management and / or room changes and communicate to the treatment teamAttend treatment team as indicatedEnsure patient safety during restraint or seclusion interventionsWhen a nursing consult is requested, the KVC nurse will document in the patient’s chart all injuries, illnesses, behavior problems, admission, discharges, doctor orders, doctor visits, therapies, treatments, labs, x-rays, and ER visitsEnsures proper medications are available for the patient during the stay at CamberReviews all doctor’s orders from previous shift if necessaryCollects specimens for labs per doctor’s ordersAccurately receives and transcribes doctor’s ordersNotifies proper individuals concerning patient’s statusDispenses medication, including narcotics, monitors medication passes as needed.Camber nursing applies first aid to patients and staff when necessaryTakes verbal order from community physicians when appropriate and calls a Camber official for approvalObtains approval from the Camber doctors to continue medication that the patient had when admittedAfter addressing the following and obtaining orders as necessary, reports any rashes, elevated temperatures, diarrheas, vomiting, stiff neck, sore throats lasting three days, dizziness, unsteady gait, severe headaches, vision problems, injuries other than a simple cut or bruise, unexplained pain, and head injuries, etc. To the physician and Medical Nurse ManagerCommunicates in Turnover any and all patient’s medical concerns and problemsAssists the unit staff, when possible, with the scheduling of outside doctor appointments, when referred by a Camber doctorPerforms special procedures and treatments under the direction of a licensed physician, then documents the procedure and outcome the patient’s progress notes in the chartNursing reviews MAR’s for accurate medication passing and documentation, along with any special orders being addressed through documentationAccurately monitors and documents on MAR’sChecks for accuracy of new medication and renewed medicationMonitors all allergies of patients and reactions to new medications for adverse reactionsAssists the doctor during clinic hoursWhen nursing input is requested, the nurse will document a follow up on variances and critical variancesCommunicates with dietary any new or changes in client diets, also reports any allergies of a patient to dietaryAdministers all PRN psychotropic medications under the direct order of a doctorNonmedical staff are not allowed to dictate when PRN’s are givenObtains consent for immunizations, PPD’s, and allergy shots for outside providersNursing, along with Compliance Officer, will review all immunization records for up-to-date immunizations, then report any immunizations that are behind to any doctorEnsure that the patients have proper medications available at school, with proper consents signed. Notify the school immediately when the doctor has changed any medicationReports to the Nursing Supervisor of any reportable infectious disease and completes Infection Control Forms as neededDemonstrates competency in waived testingDemonstrate proper usage of the EEG and glucometer machinesAssists with patient / parent teaching as neededWhen nursing is available, properly packs all medications for passes and discharges or reviews pass sheets / medicationsProperly reports any abuse / neglect of a patientPulls medications that are discontinuedReport major disabling, or life threatening illness or injury to the Nurse Manager or designeeChecks for accuracy of new medication and renewed medicationDocuments in the patient’s progress notes results of condition being treated on an ongoing basisCommunicate any medical / psychiatric concerns of a patient with the treatment team and receive physician order as needed from the appropriate physician and carry out any orders, protecting the patient, to ensure wellbeingConduct hygiene / educational groupsAssists in staff training as neededJoin us :
