Job Summary :
The CDL / Yard Jockey is responsible for operating tractors to switch empty and full trailers to and from the shipping dock and yard trailer parking area.
Shift : Friday / Saturday / Sunday, 5pm - 5am
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Receives shipping schedule for ensuing shift and operates truck tractor to move filled trailers to yard parking area as designated
- Monitors and ensures that safety chocks are in place during loading process and removed for return to parking area
- Places and removes dock boards as required
- Cleans out trailers after placement at dock for loading
- Other duties as assigned
- Operate material handling equipment
- Maintain all required certifications required by DOT and OSHA and company safety programs
- Maintain and protect all property entrusted to you in excellent condition
- Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall team operations
- Maintain a level of professionalism at all times
Required Skills / Abilities :
- Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving
- Hazmat / tanker endorsement
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment
- Ability to safely drive various vehicles
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions
- Ability to make independent judgments which have moderate impacts on the organization
Education and Experience :
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least two years of recent driving experience with a Class A CDL, tanker and hazmat endorsements.
- Minimal infractions on a 3-yr MVR.
- Current Class A CDL and DOT card
Physical Requirements :
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk.
- Team member is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- The Team Member is frequently required to sit, talk and hear.
- Team Member must occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Candidates must pass a background check, pre-employment drug screen and road test administered by Sunland.
