Defense & Security
CAE’s Defense & Security is a $2B, 6,000+ employee business operating under a Special Security Agreement (SSA) to mitigate foreign ownership, control or influence in order to allow the execution of classified work and research and development in the United States.

Most militaries leverage a combination of live training on actual platforms, virtual training in simulators, and constructive training using computer-generated
simulations. The solutions provided by CAE’s Defense and Security business unit typically include a combination of training services, simulation products and software tools designed to cost effectively maintain and enhance safety, efficiency, mission readiness and decision-making capabilities.
Summary
The Senior Director, Finance will be responsible for accounting / financial reporting, division finance, strategic planning / budgeting, treasury / cash management, capital planning, program finance, and new business finance functions.
The position will be responsible for providing executive leadership, financial strategies, and the management of financial resources to ensure the achievement of the business plans and objectives.
The position will also be responsible for overall financial plans and policies. A principal responsibility will be to ensure the quality of financial management throughout the organization, including processes and business analysis and providing informative reports to the entire executive management team.
This candidate will also be responsible for preparing reports information for Company Management and its Board of Directors.
Specific Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership for significant financial growth
- Establish financial policies, practices and procedures for the company
- Establish appropriate business controls to engender an appropriate results focus in decision making. Lead the business through the challenges of growth and position the business to capitalize on as yet undiscovered opportunities
- Understand and analyze divisional financial performance as it relates to forecasted profitability
- Improve profit as dictated by annual business plans
- Coordinate expenditure programs to coincide with forecasted cash flow
- Extensive experience in both cash and treasury management
- Analyze and review every facet of the business, including such things as revenue return, pricing, forecasting and taking the appropriate actions to achieve margin improvement and net profit improvement on every element of the business
- Personally engage to ensure solid program-level financial performance, and that issues and methods for their containment are identified early
- Personally engage in establishing new business financial strategies and ensure that issues and methods for their containment are identified early
- Participate with the CFO and the executive management team in preparing financial presentations for company executives, shareholders and financial institutions
- Provide skill, insight and experience in assessing technology and technology companies for investment recommendations
- Take initiative with ideas and actively help lead the company regarding strategic and tactical management issues, bringing financial and general management expertise to the division’s leadership
Team Management
- Responsible for leading Finance teams within a multi-location environment
- Oversee planning, budgeting, staffing, coordination, training and activities of functional working groups as required
- Identify, evaluate, and resolve complex business challenges in a collaborative manner through cross-functional business teams
- Inspire and lead efforts towards greater efficiencies, synergies, and technological innovation across the Finance organization
Professional Experience / Qualifications
- Familiarity with the sales and booking process and knowledge of the marketplace for the company’s products and services
- Experience in the defense industry
- Hands-on pragmatic approach to business, asset management, cash flow and profitability
- Ability to identify problems, prioritize what needs to be done, and stay focused on the priority items to meet the division’s financial goals
- Strong conceptual and business analytical skills
- Experience as a senior officer, with both controller and treasury experience
- A good background in corporate finance and a leading role in developing internal and external working relationships
- Significant experience in rapid growth technology markets, with emphasis on the defense industry, both domestic and international.
Experienced in taking a company forward in a fast growth environment, providing insight for direction and managing change effectively
- Due to Government contract requirements, only citizens are eligible for this role
- A minimum of 15 years of work experience on a progressive career growth path, with much of that time in a senior financial management position in the defense industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance / Accounting and a CPA. An MBA would be desirable
