Position Overview :
The Full-Time Mentor to DSPs will provide essential guidance, training, and support to new and existing Direct Support Professionals.
This role focuses on ensuring that DSPs are well-equipped to deliver exceptional care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities.
The Mentor will serve as a role model, trainer, and resource, promoting best practices and continuous improvement within the team.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provide one-on-one and group mentorship to new and existing DSPs.
- Model exemplary support practices and demonstrate effective care strategies.
- Assist DSPs in understanding and implementing individualized support plans and behavior management strategies.
- Monitor DSP performance, providing constructive feedback and support to enhance their skills.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages professional growth and collaboration.
- Assist in the development and updating of training materials and resources.
- Support DSPs in managing challenging situations and provide guidance on problem-solving techniques.
- Conduct regular check-ins with DSPs to assess their needs and provide ongoing support and mentorship.
- Collaborate with management and other team members to ensure consistency and quality in service delivery.
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions, mentorship activities, and DSP progress.
- Maintain and conduct in-person Home and Work Studies
- Stay current with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and excellence in service delivery.
Qualifications :
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Direct Support Professional or in a similar caregiving role.
- Proven ability to provide high-quality support to individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in training, mentoring, or supervising staff.
- Ability to pass a background check and any required health screenings.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic demeanor.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle challenging situations.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Certification as a Direct Support Professional or similar credential.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience with behavior management strategies and techniques.
- Knowledge of local resources and services for individuals with developmental disabilities.
