Position Description

The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in the software industry; experience in the oil and gas technology industry would be highly recommended but is not mandatory.

The position will be based in Houston, Texas or The Hague, Netherlands.

Reporting directly to the General Counsel of Vela’s Carina portfolio, the successful candidate for this position will take the lead on most legal matters, including data privacy, data security, commercial contracts, corporate matters, litigation, intellectual property, compliance and managing outside counsel, with respect to Vela’s GeoSoftware and GeoActive business units.

The successful candidate will assist with : drafting legal documents, negotiating legal matters and advising business managers across the two business units on legal matters, and providing guidance on compliance with the law and company policies and procedures.

Must have demonstrated skill and experience drafting, reviewing, revising and negotiating master agreements, supplier agreements, and client contracts.

Ideal candidates must be adaptable, business minded, able to prioritize and manage workload independently and collaboratively with clients, and have experience in fast-paced environments and routinely working across international time zones.

Excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are required, and candidates must have demonstrated skill and experience in effectively communicating complex issues (oral and written).

This role is best suited to someone who has a working knowledge or interest in expanding their international legal knowledge in multiple jurisdictions, including Asia Pacific, China, South America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
