Responsibilities POSITION PURPOSE : The Infection Control Preventionist provides care and management of patients and / or employees with infections.
They report these infections to the local health department and help employees formulate ways to prevent the spread of communicable / nosocomial infections.
The ICP surveys the hospital setting, and inspect each area for potential problem areas related to cleanliness and sanitation, as well as areas of potential infection transmission.
They coordinate a Performance Improvement plan that identifies measures through aggregate data collection, assesses and improves infection control processes within the facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES : Infection Control Preventionist : Conducts ongoing surveillance of infections in patients and employees, compile and interpret this data, and present it to the Safety Committee each month.
Inspects all on and off-site areas, observes for employee activities to detect any potential infection hazards, and evaluate compliance with standards.
Compiles and presents this data to the Safety Committee. Investigates the clusters of infections above expected levels. Surveys for outbreaks, evaluates and gives recommendations for the prevention of further spread of infection and disseminates this information to the Safety Committee.
Educates staff and patients on the specific policies and procedures involved in infection control, such as universal precautions, blood borne pathogens, tuberculosis, etc.
Communicates all reportable diseases to the local Health Department in a timely manner. Serves on the PI Committee. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
Equivalent experience may be substituted for 2 years of college. RN licensure in the state of Texas. APIC Certified preferred.
Must possess public speaking, communication, and technical writing skills. Must have knowledge of performance improvement / quality principles and competency-based training.
Ability to identify infections and trends, survey for infections, compile data on infections, attend monthly Safety Committee meetings and report data to committee.
Develops plans of action to help prevent the spread of nosocomial infections. EXPERIENCE : Experience in Infection Control.
