Overview
The Senior Communications Specialist is an integral member of DSA’s Communications & Marketing Team, primarily responsible for helping strategize content, and writing and editing for a variety of communication platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce quality content for DSA’s newsletters, email campaigns, website, various reports, presentations and social media platforms in accordance with the DSA’s strategic plan, brand strategy, editorial guidelines and voice.
- Write, edit and help maintain content of DSA website and recommend content improvements.
- Produce monthly DSA newsletter - generating AP-style copy and identifying compelling, on-brand visuals.
- Produce content for quarterly Metropolitan Improvement District ratepayer newsletter.
- Develop content for routine e-blasts distributed to DSA members, rooted in an understanding of the DSA’s key strategies, priorities and brand strategy.
- Assist with media relations, including the drafting of Op-Eds, news releases, media advisories and calendar alerts.
- Track and report on audience / user engagement with newsletters, social platforms, etc.
- Take occasional photos or videos for communications needs and help maintain DSA’s photo library.
- Assist with writing / editing for internal communications projects as needed.
- Collaborate closely with other members of the Communications & Marketing team, including graphic designers and Membership, as well as with the DSA Advocacy Team.
- Support DSA member events and other team priorities and projects as time allows.
- Perform other related duties of a comparable level / type as assigned.
Qualifications
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with proficiency in AP style editing preferred.
- Ability to write for a variety of channels and audiences.
- Ability to take constructive feedback and experience with managing an editing process.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- 3 5 years of professional experience in communications, public relations or related field with a history of content generation.
- Ability to interact professionally with clients and demonstrate good judgment.
- Highly organized and attentive to details with excellent follow-through.
- Team player comfortable with a collaborative environment.
- Must be able to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Must be available to work occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends.
- Proficient with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and Tik Tok).
- Must be experienced using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs; Some experience with, Adobe Suite, InDesign and WordPress preferred.
Physical Requirements
Work Environment - Work in an office setting.
Physical Demands Standing, walking, bending, crouching. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Employment Details
DSA is committed to internal and market equity. The hourly range for this position is $29.10 - $43.65 (grade level 28) Salary is determined based on internal and market equity, internal and market data / salary ranges, and the applicant’s job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
We will hire at the beginning to mid-range of the salary range to allow future salary growth based on an employee's performance, professional development and increases in responsibilities and duties.
