Position Purpose :
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will be instrumental in providing the highest quality care for all Aurora University athletes.
The candidate will possess experience and knowledge across the domains of athletic training.

- Handles all information with tact and discretion and recognizes the confidential nature of university business.
- Supports learning through performance of essential job functions and performing other duties and functions as necessary or as assigned.
Essential Job Functions :
- Provides medical care to all Aurora University student-athletes.
- Maintains accurate medical documentation in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA.
- Provides game and practice coverage for 24 NCAA Division III athletic teams, and for other special events as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Develops venue-specific emergency action plans and on a yearly basis, instruct coaches and staff on their role in the Emergency Action Plan.
- Provides on-site rehabilitation and treatment of athletic injuries.
- Maintains equipment and athletic training facilities.
- Determines a student-athlete’s ability to practice or compete following the direction of the team physician.
- Participates in required continuing education and certification coursework to fulfill state requirements for license renewal and national certification.
- Supervises Masters of Science Athletic Training (MSAT) students during clinical rotations.
- Assists Head Athletic Trainer with day-to-day operations and communication with coaches.
- Assists the Head Athletic Trainer with inventory and budget of Athletic Training Department.
- Assists with summer sport camp coverage.
- Attends athletic department meetings and university community meetings and functions.
- Other duties as needed or assigned.
Essential Job Requirements :
Education :
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience :
One to three years collegiate experience preferred.
Skills :
- Plan, oversee, execute, and evaluate a comprehensive offering of athletic training services to meet the diverse needs of the University’s student-athletes and coaches.
- Works closely with the other full-time athletic trainers, outside medical professionals, and other interested parties.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Excellent verbal and written skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide range of constituents : student-athletes, parents, coaches, media, alumni, administrators, support staff, campus community, and the community at large.
- Ability to set and achieve or exceed goals and meet deadlines, strong strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- General computer knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of athletics.
Special Requirements :
A valid driver's license and driving record which meets institutional requirements is required.
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to interact verbally in person, over the telephone and via written and electronic media
- Ability to move around campus which includes gym, turf, and grass fields.
- Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 30lbs.
- Ability to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time.
- Evening and weekend availability is required.
- Flexibility with an evolving work environment is important.
