As the journeyman level Apprentice Automotive Vehicle Technician - Mechanic, you will diagnose, repair, maintain, outfit, and / or refurbishes vehicles, trailers and various types of vehicles and construction equipment.
The AVT is expected to have all hand tools to repair vehicles and equipment.
Specifically, you’ll have the opportunity to :
- Familiarize oneself with the operation of diverse units, such as derrick diggers, single and double buckets, tow motors, cranes and construction equipment through training provided
- Complete documentation, work orders, reports and submit them in a timely manner as instructed
- Identify electrical wiring to safely perform repairs
- Safeguard self as well as fellow workers and the public in course and scope of business by following the safety rules set forth in the Company’s Accident Prevention Manual
- Fulfill and maintain all attendance requirements for both regularly scheduled hours and overtime
- Maintain proper working relationships with co-workers, management, clients and vendors
- Diagnoses and performs repairs on vehicles (including aerial devices), equipment (including hydraulics) and trailers. Uses diagnostic test equipment
- Able to obtain and maintain special accreditation, licenses, certifications and permits required to perform this job as required by management, including : *DOT Regulated / DPS Administered Class "A" Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDL) *DOT / DPS Motor Vehicle Safety Inspectors License OSHA Crane / Forklift Operators License
- Perform DOT inspections and PM maintenance in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Modify and / or install kits on vehicles, equipment, and trailers to make the unit conform to special needs
- Investigate various records, computer printouts / screens, and driver / operator complaints to determine extent of repairs and / or service required.
- Maintain work records and forms as needed to provide accurate and complete documentation of work activity.
- Use safe work practices, proper safety equipment, and maintains the work area to provide a safe and clean working environment.
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of two years of college / technical training in the automotive technology field from an accredited institution
- A minimum of three years of mechanical maintenance and repair on gas and diesel engines, heavy trucks and heavy equipment.
- Military training in diesel repair and maintenance may substitute for the experience requirements.
Preferred :
- Hydraulic maintenance and repair
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications preferred in the following : Automobile & Light Truck Certification Tests A1 Engine Repair A5 Brakes A6 Electrical / Electronic Systems A7 Heating & Air Conditioning A8 Engine Performance Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Tests T2 Diesel Engines T3 Drive Train T4 Brakes T8 Preventive Maintenance Inspection
The AVT will normally work at a service center in the Houston Metropolitan area.
