Transuranic Waste Visual Examination Professional

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Transuranic Waste Visual Examination Professional to work in our Waste Management Program department.

Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our MFC facility with every Friday off.

You will provide visual examination oversight for the BEA Transuranic Waste Program, ensuring compliant waste characterization, storage, and disposal of legacy and new generation transuranic waste.

You will report to the manager for the Waste Management Program department.

Responsibilities Include :

• Ensure visual examination characterization activities are conducted following procedural and regulatory requirements.* Sort TRU waste from other waste types.
• Identify, improve, and dispose of prohibited items.* Complete and maintain waste container documentation.* Approve waste characterization records.
• Work with the BEA Transuranic Waste Program, Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) operations, Waste Generator Services (WGS), Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project (AMWTP), Central Characterization Project (CCP), and other personnel to resolve TRU waste characterization issues.
• Manage conditions and corrective actions within the issues management system.* Conduct programmatic assessments and respond to programmatic audit findings.
• Shut down any visual examination (VE) characterization process that is not compliant with procedures or regulatory requirements.
• Complete all training to maintain the VE Expert qualification requirements.* Provide in-person classroom instruction to students acquiring the Waste Examination Operator qualification in classrooms of 5 students or more.
• Update Waste Examination Operator qualification training materials in accordance with the training organization requirements.

Minimum Requirements :

• Level 2 : Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or science discipline, such as waste management, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences, and 2 years of experience or Master's and 0 years of experience.
• Level 3 : Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or science discipline, such as waste management, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences, and 5 years of experience or Master's and 2 years of experience.
• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information :

• The pay range for this position is : Level 2 ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 3 ($75,804 - $155,496). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

• TDP : This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
