The Center for Biomedical Research Support (CBRS) is a collection of 10 service centers that operates under the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors (OVPR) and broadly supports the research community on campus and externally.

CBRS serves a central role across all of campus to provide access to cutting-edge technology, expert advice, and centralized services.

CBRS is comprised of core facilities including Biomedical Imaging, Bioinformatics, Biological Mass Spectrometry, Biomedical Research Computing, Cryo-EM imaging, Genome Sequencing, Microscopy / Flow Cytometry and Mouse Genetic Engineering.

In addition, CBRS provides laboratory support in the forms of stockrooms, electronics repair, and external services drop boxes.

Purpose

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a full-time MRI Program Manager to join the Biomedical Imaging Center (BIC) and lead the MR component of the BIC's mission.

The BIC is a university core facility that incorporates multi-modal biomedical imaging (MRI, PET, CT, optical imaging) and supports basic, translational and clinical research at UT-Austin and the wider community.

We have a wide ranging user-base that encompasses human and preclinical imaging across multiple fields including oncology, neurology, psychology, psychiatry, nutrition and biomedical engineering.

The MRI Program Manager will occupy a leadership position within the BIC andbe responsible forexpanding our technical capabilities and services, enhancing our educational programs,and overseeing the management of ourimaging systems.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in the application of MRI to biomedical research - preferably familiar with both pre-clinical and human imaging - with the vision, technical expertise, and leadership skills to increase our impact on the global imaging community.

Responsibilities

Leads the MR component of the BIC's scientific and educational mission.

Supervises the MRI team and oversees the management of the clinical and preclinical MR systems of the BIC, ensuring that each system is operating effectively and efficiently.

Guides the expansion of our technical capabilities by developing and implementing new MRI methods and services on the Center's MRI systems.

Coordinates the educational and training programs of the BIC regarding MR imaging and spectroscopy, including the development of curricula.

Collaborates with our support team and provides advanced technical support to BIC users for human and pre-clinical MR imaging and spectroscopy.

Serves as the representative of the Center's MR operations to the research community; performs local outreach concerning BIC's resources and services.

Performs other duties as requested.

Required Qualifications

PhD in a discipline related to biomedical MRI e.g. biomedical engineering, physics, chemistry / biochemistry, with a detailed knowledge of MR physics.

3 or more years of experience in the application of MRI to biomedical research in either a clinical or preclinical environment.

Pulse Sequence and / or image reconstruction programming.

Demonstrated ability to train and support researchers in MRI.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Ability to think independently and assess critically / resolve complex problems.

Effective and flexible leadership and teamwork skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Siemens and / or Bruker systems and their sequence / reconstruction programming environments (IDEA, ICE, ParaVision)

Familiarity with both preclinical and human MR research

Small animal handling as it relates to preclinical imaging

Experience with the integration of custom hardware with the MR system

Familiarity with standard MRI / fMRI analysis packages e.g. Freesurfer, Fsl, Osirix,

Experience with other software development environments e.g. Matlab, R-studio, MS Visual Studio

Proficiency with MS Office or equivalent packages

Salary Range

$85,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility :

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
