JOB SUMMARY :

The Jefferson County Commission is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Information Security Analyst to join its team.

The Information Security Analyst is responsible for protecting the organization's information systems by identifying potential security threats, implementing robust security measures, and continuously monitoring for security breaches.

Individuals in this role work closely with various departments to ensure compliance with security policies and standards, conduct regular security assessments, and respond promptly to security incidents.

Reporting to the Information Security Officer, the Information Security Analyst receives managerial direction in terms of broad practice, policies, and goals;

but is expected to exercise substantial independent judgment and technical expertise in the performance of assigned duties, This position is also expected to create documented security measures to be incorporated into security protocols.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, and the ability to stay ahead of emerging threats in the ever-evolving landscape of information security.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for employment in this position, a candidate possess the following :

Experience performing system and network security assessments (e.g., vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, threat hunting).

Experience securing a Microsoft Windows and Active Directory environment (e.g., vulnerability assessment, creation of hardening guidelines).

Experience investigating and responding to network and system security-related alerts using an established Incident Response Plan (e.

g., resolving security threats, making recommendations for threat resolution / mitigation to appropriate IT personnel).

Experience working within and troubleshooting systems (e.g., computers, servers, network VPN, TCP / IP).

Preferred Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, management information systems, programming, computer information systems or related field of study.

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Security+ Certification.

Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).

ECSA EC-Council Certified Security Analyst.

GIAC Security Certifications.

Experience working with regulations / compliance initiatives (e.g., Payment Card Industry (PCI), NIST Cybersecurity Framework).

Experience securing cloud environments (e.g., Azure, AWS).

Experience writing standards, standard operating procedures, or policies.

Experience managing Firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Intrusion Protection Systems (IPS), or other security appliances.

Job Duties :

Typical Information Security Analyst job duties include, but are not necessarily limited to :

Performs information and network security monitoring and response by investigating, taking corrective action against and reporting security breaches and network system attacks in accordance with incident response plans to maintain compliance with security standards and prevent future occurrences.

Creates documentation of security measures to provide to the information security team to be incorporated into security protocols.

Produces reports, letters, and other written correspondence designed to document activities and efforts, share and communicate information, and provide instruction and / or guidance on organizational and departmental practices.

Tests the adequacy of the security procedures for networks and / or operating systems to maintain security.

Performs vulnerability and network scanning assessments to discover system vulnerabilities.

Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and / or guidelines.

Conducts information security risk assessments by creating disaster recovery and contingency plans, running penetration testing and analyzing data related to security threats and breaches in order to maintain compliance with industry-set security standards.

Conducts maintenance and upgrade of networks, systems, and equipment in order to ensure effective, appropriate, and secure functioning of all organizational information systems and technology.

The Jefferson County Commission offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including :

Salary range : $76,627 - $118,872 (starting salary is commensurate with education and experience)

Flexible work arrangements may be included such as remote / telework options and alternative work schedules (e.g., four 10-hour days).

Such flexible work arrangements must be approved by the Department Director.

Work Environment :

Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.
