Job Description
The Global Streaming Technology Digital Network Operations Center (GST-DNOC) is seeking a Director, System Engineering & Reliability.
This role will be a seasoned leader who will partner with the cross functional technology teams within broadcast and digital groups to bridge and improve workflows between organizations.
This position will be responsible for proper communication, reliability and resiliency of our encoding, networking, and associated hardware operations.
Additionally, this role will lead management of our global DNOC physical spaces including maintenance and growth of systems and reliability to ensure fault free operation and improved monitoring and failover capabilities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee all streaming, file delivery technology infrastructure for complete end to end workflow
- Group lead in delivery of engineering presentation materials including PowerPoint, Vision and MS Project
- Manage on-site presence and escalation within digital operations, broadcast operations and transmission on all events for 24 / 6 / 365 operations
- Drive a team with diverse skillsets to deliver work back schedules & roadmaps for cross functional delivery across a variety of workstreams
- Measure and report out on system quality and performance, operational reliability, and future roadmap to ensure 99.999% uptime
- Proactively predict and prevent disruptive events including reactive analysis of these events to ensure predictability and reliability of systems managed in the video pipeline
- Ownership of root cause analysis on all defects such that outages are minimized based on data driven metrics
- Communication ownership within broadcast, digital and transmission operations to ensure coverage aligns with linear and event based scheduling needs
- Operational knowledge of scheduling automation systems and full end to end digital workflow from signal acquisition to end user deliver, baseband a / v processing and signal flow
- Aid in design, documentation and management of new technical systems (hardware and software based) as well as associated workflows
- Collaborates across DNOC leadership and Global Streaming Technology to ensure proper partnerships and collaborative relationships
Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years' experience in a role demonstrating strong technical, quantitative, and analytical skills
- Minimum five (5) years' experience with system level and broadcast television engineering maintenance experience
- Minimum five (5) years' leadership experience overseeing a team of engineers and reliability personnel
- Extensive experience working in a matrixed organization with large cross section of senior level functional stakeholders
- Expert in TV platforms with multiple propositions, huge concurrent viewing audiences and spiky traffic patterns
- In depth knowledge of fiber optic technologies and coax transport, MPEG-2 / 4 encoding and decoding, ASI, MPEG over IP, Dolby-E, MATV / IPTV, multiway processors.

- Proven track record of delivering systems with 99.999% service availability
- Business leader and collaborator with the ability to effectively manage a large set of senior resources, set KPI's for program and track workstreams to achieve goals and objectives of program needs
- Ability to create and comprehend signal flow diagrams (CAD) as well as encoding system troubleshooting
- Demonstrated portfolio of managing large scale $5MM+ projects
- Experience with broadcast and measurement equipment in addition to MS Office and Visio
Desired Characteristics :
- Excellent communicator and able to manage technical operations while interfacing with Engineering, Operations and multiple 3rd parties
- Experience in different cost budgeting approaches (top down, bottom up) and application to diverse workstreams and programs
- Ability to prepare and deliver written and oral communication of complex matters in standardized formats based on audience
- Ability to escalate critical transmission problems quickly and efficiently in order to minimize disruptions. Ability to work around system failures to mitigate interruptions to live and on demand workflows

Salary range : $185,000-$202,000. This role is bonus-eligible
