Founded in 2004, the mission of Urban Upbound is to break cycles of poverty in public housing neighborhoods and other low-income communities in New York City.
We advance our mission through five integrated programs : employment services, financial counseling, youth development services, community revitalization, and financial inclusion anchored by the Urban Upbound Federal Credit Union.
The Data Manager for the Tax Preparation and Income Supports Program leads the impact monitoring activities of the program and oversees its evaluation component.
The Data Manager is responsible for maintaining the program’s databases and safeguarding its content, including training staff.
The Data Manager may also support other programs when needed.
This is a fast-paced position ideal for an individual with drive, enthusiasm, strong work ethic, strong analytical and communications skills, good at collaborating and who has the ability to multitask within an environment of multiple deadlines.
Also needed are a good sense of humor and a strong desire to create lasting, meaningful change in public housing neighborhoods.
Reporting to Program Director and the Urban Upbound Data and Evaluation Manager, and working in collaboration with Urban Upbound leadership, the Data Manager is responsible for :
- Overseeing reporting, paying attention to reporting requirements, deliverables and timelines.
- Managing the program’s databases and its multiple data streams.
- Providing data analysis and data quality management.
- Ensuring the program is in compliance with funders requirements and attending meetings with funders and partners.
- Collaborating with the Urban Upbound Data and Evaluation Manager in maintaining our Salesforce CRM, building out new objects as needed, and training staff.
- Collecting qualitative data and designing new metrics in order to evaluate the full impact of the program.
- Supporting the Development and leadership teams with data-related requests.
- Supporting other programs with data management-related requests, as assigned by the Urban Upbound Data and Evaluation Manager.
- Authoring reports and white papers.
- Keeping updated in best practices and technologies for safeguarding the integrity of data and ensuring its use is responsible and non-exploitative.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Program Director, the Urban Upbound Data and Evaluation Manager, or Urban Upbound leadership.
Qualifications
- BA in Statistics, Social Science Research, Data Science, or a related field is required. Masters Degree or higher preferred.
- Experience working with large databases, statistical analysis, and measuring outcomes.
- Knowledge of basic tax law, and experience in public policy, government research, or academic research is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace (G Suite) is required.
- Experience with Salesforce as a system administrator is a plus.
- Flexible, with the ability to both work remotely from home and to commute to our Long Island City office. May need to work the occasional evening or weekend and to travel to other Urban Upbound sites.
- Strong time management, organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and produce high quality work in a timely manner.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with high integrity and respect.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with capacity to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Open to learning new skills and take on additional responsibilities.
- Bilingual Spanish speaker is a plus. Other languages are welcomed.
- Sense of humor and passion for social justice.
