SLR International Corporation seeks an experienced Air Quality Engineer or Scientist to join our growing regulatory permitting and compliance team in Anchorage, Alaska.

Candidates who live in, or are willing to relocate to, Anchorage are preferred. This position is full time, requires 10+ years of relevant experience, and has an array of responsibilities requiring flexibility and versatile skills.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level professional to contribute technically to challenging air quality projects for oil & gas, mining, chemical, energy, and industrial clients in Alaska and throughout the US.

Job Description Technical and Interpersonal Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, environmental science, atmospheric science, chemistry, or related scientific field (Master of Science degree preferred);
  • 10+ years’ progressive experience in air quality consulting, or related disciplines;
  • Experience with air quality permitting and compliance monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting (Alaska experience preferred);
  • Understand State of Alaska and Federal air quality regulations, such as Title V, PSD, GHG Reporting, NSPS, and NESHAP and experience with supporting clients in maintaining compliance with these requirements and other relevant programs;
  • Experience with reporting programs such as air emissions inventory, greenhouse gases, annual / semi-annual air permit reports, annual air compliance certifications, monthly air permit reports;
  • Experience with petroleum and / or chemical industry processes;
  • Understanding of industrial operations and combustion equipment;
  • Strong spreadsheet / calculation skills for industrial sources;
  • Experience with technical writing and interaction with State and Federal agencies;
  • Excellent communication skills to foster strong relationships with peers, colleagues, clients, and subcontractors;
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment; handling multiple project assignments; meeting strict deadlines, providing high-quality work products, and traveling to client facilities as needed;
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multi tasking skills; detail oriented;
  • Experience managing project budgets and deadlines;
  • Self-motivated and market-facing as a consultant;
  • Self-sufficient and pro-active in seeking work tasks;
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team;

Key Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

  • Comply with SLR and client health, safety, and environmental requirements including drug and alcohol policies;
  • Manage strategic air permits and compliance assurance programs for a variety of industrial clients with complex technical / regulatory issues.
  • Work closely with clients and develop strong relationships to understand specific processes and develop permitting and compliance strategies to help clients maintain maximum operating flexibility;
  • Manage projects and teams to achieve client’s expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality;
  • Serve as a technical resource for air quality compliance assurance and permitting programs, including regulatory analyses of industrial facility operations;

major and minor source air permit applications under NSR, PSD, Title V, and state-level regulations; and NSPS / NESHAP MACT compliance programs.

  • Review State, Federal, and Local regulations for applicability determinations and compliance tasking;
  • Lead teams in preparing calculations using spreadsheets, databases, third party software, and process simulation software to quantify air emissions from industrial processes for use in air permitting, emissions inventories and reporting, and annual compliance reporting;
  • Prepare and use data management systems and tools to track compliance with permit requirements and air regulations and prepare compliance reports;
  • Lead consultations and negotiations with State and Federal regulatory agencies with clients and on behalf of clients; and
  • Identify client opportunities, scope project efforts, prepare and support technical proposal development, and actively contribute to business development.

Compensation Range :

The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $100, to $120, Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.

Possible relocation allowance of up to $10,000 after assessing candidate needs.
