Your Role on the Team

The Associate Director, Career Education is a key leadership role within the Division of Career Pathways (DCP) that requires exceptional program management and relationship-building skills to engage team members, students, faculty, staff, and alumni in efforts that will increase access to quality career education services and meaningful career experiences for UC Irvine students.

While providing forward-looking leadership and management, the Associate Director applies principles of strategic planning, operational management, and best practices as they relate to Career Education.

The Associate Director collaborates with the Director of Career Education to direct the day-to-day administration and planning efforts of the Career Education team.

The Associate Director serves on the DCP Leadership Team and performs the role of the Director of Career Education, in their absence.

Principle responsibilities include :

  • Oversees and evaluates daily program operations on direct student service programs and offerings.
  • Actively supervises Career Education professional staff including leading recruitments, onboarding, and assessment of staff.

Supports programs and projects as needed.

  • Manages the outreach requests to the department and delegates responsibilities and follows up with the requestor.
  • Using data, makes decisions regarding direct service offerings including drop-in advising, appointments, and workshops.
  • Serves on internal DCP committees.
  • Plans major programs (such as Career Series) events with collaborative and intentional planning.
  • Develops relationships with liaison departments on campus.
  • Provides direct services to students including drop-in advising, workshop delivery, and scheduled appointments.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $63,800.00- $84,000.00 (Annual).

Required :

  • Knowledge of career services processes and practices, and employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively work with and interact with diverse individuals - internal team members, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and employers.
  • Knowledge of career development theories, counseling processes, career decision making, and job / graduate school application processes.
  • Experience with supervising staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating major career programs and events.
  • Demonstrated time management skills. Demonstrated ability to identify problems, develop appropriate resolutions and take initiative to enhance projects.
  • Extensive experience in individual and group career counseling skills as well as delivering workshops and presentations on career-related topics.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Three or more years of professional experience in any combination of student services, university career services, career counseling, and / or human resources.

Preferred :

  • Master's Degree and five or more years of student services, university career services, career counseling and / or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with various career services technology platforms such as Handshake, Focus 2, Big Interview, and more.
  • Knowledge of University of California academic programs, student services, and additional technologies.

Special Conditions :

  • Occasional evening work and weekend work required.
  • Ability to travel and provide own reliable means of transportation.
  • Position eligible for hybrid work, inclusive of both onsite and remote work.
